New owner of a 2017 X5M!

Upgraded from a 2011 X5 xdrive35i, picked it up CPO from a nearby dealer. Fully IN LOVE. It's the perfect car for me—plenty of room for the kids, can haul my drums and other assorted gear, can tow my race car, and goes like hell!

I have only one question so far, regarding fuel capacity. Supposed to have a 22.4 gal tank, but reserve light comes on and then it only takes 16-18 gallons. I've only filled up twice so far, but each time it stopped earlier than I would expect. Thoughts?

Enjoy the pics!

Mine does the same thing. The reserve light came on this week and when I went to fill it up it took 17 gallons. My BMW app said I had 3 gallons left in the tank. According to BMW, the gas tank capacity is 22.4 gallons. I’ve concluded that the light and the app are conservative on the amount of gas left in order to avoid running the tank empty.
Congrats on your new M.

Welcome and congratulations on your M.
The fuel indicator on my X5M comes on when the needle is just below 1/4 tank. Don't worry about it too much; but the X5M is rather thirsty. Otherwise, it's an awesome vehicle. You'll love it!

Let it marinate and then the mod bug will bite you. The more you frequent the forums, the sooner it will hit you.

I noticed the pump nozzle clicks off way before the tank is full and upon starting the car up, the fuel gauge is slightly below the full tank mark.

I’ve run the tank dangerously low (according to the gauge and computer) and the pump clicked off somewhere in the 19 gallon range. If the capacity is 22.4, then that would be way more than $2...more like two gallons. It’s annoying because if you got the fill up properly, you’d be able to go
longer between fillups.

About 33k. That's that plan! I have 2.5 years left of warranty which is nice.

Yes, it seems like it's hitting reserve rather early.

SO TRUE

So either the the way it's "plumbed" makes the pump click off early, or the reserve light is coming on with several gallons left. Or a little of both. I would just like to have a little longer in between fillups.

Thanks for all the friendly welcomes! I know this is a BMW forum but I've attached a pic of the race car if anyone is interested. A lot cheaper than racing a Bimmer

great looking ///M and color choice as for the low fuel warnings, you can change it with bimmercode. i think the options are 10, 20, 30 miles and or 10 20, 30, 40, 50 kilometers. also if i remember correctly, there's also a 2nd warning.

Congrats - nice looking car. I too have the low fuel light come on just under a quarter of a tank. I can understand it given how thirsty it is.

Congratulations. You'll love it.
Regarding the fuel capacity it really depends on road conditions and the way you're driving it. If you're twisting and turning in the city it'll empty quicker especially towards the last bit of gas left.
