X5 sounds like a frog!
Hello fellow X5ers,
Yesterday out of the blue, my '17 35i started making a croaking sound from behind the driver dash/cluster. The sound is not dependent on speed or engine and pretty sure it is something to do with electricals. It continues with engine off and car turned off. Sometimes it completely disappears but so far since we noticed it 24 hours ago, it has been present 90% of times. To best describe the noise, it sounds like a frog croaking/creaking. Rhythmic croaks every one second. Tried to capture it on my phone. Note it's semi faint and could have been present longer than yesterday and definitely gets drown out with music on. Please take a listen with volume cranked up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLuS...ature=youtu.be

I know this doesn't help, but a 2017 X5M I looked at a few months ago while on the hunt for one made the exact same noise. Dealer had no idea what it was. Said they escalated to BMWNA, but I had already given up on that car for other reasons. I do have a video of the sound if you ever need it to show that other X5s have had it. Hopefully, someone else here has experienced it and knows the fix. I'm super curious to know what it is. Good luck!

Have them check your HUD If you have one equipped, possible gear drive stripped on it. Mine makes a similar noise just for a few seconds raising and lowering the internal shield (or mirror for height adjustment) built into them. Took me forever to figure out what it was.
