CarChex Issue Buyer Beware!
I had CarChex for about 4 months, until I had to use them! I had 5 year 100K protection plan for my 2015 X5M with 36k on it. Made 4 payments of $265 per month to total cost of the 5k for the plan. I had the Titanium plan. Took my X5M into my local BMW dealership because my drivetrain malfunction light came on. Right off the bat my service advisor said we have been having problem with the administrator of this CarChex warranty. I called my administrator, as they said send us the estimate before you authorized any work. My deductible is $200.00. So after the diagnose BMW had to replace a part. Part cost $175.00, BMW labor was 2.5 hr. at $147.00 per hour came out to a total of $565.00 give or take. CarChex disputed BMW part cost and labor price. They only wanted to pay $140.00 for part and said labor was only .8 vs. 2.5 BMW charge me and only authorized $127.00 for total labor when BMW want around $350.00 for labor, understand labor was also, the diagnose time too. Long story short I spent 4 hour going back and forth with CarChex and the Administrator of warranty! CarChex only paid $85.00 of $565.00. Then I never got the authorization because of issue with the administrators not agreeing to pay for diagnose and CarChex approving cost of diagnose. So having to deal with two parties was crazy! I just paid the full price myself, and told CarChex to send me in mail what they will pay me with or without diagnose cost. Either $85.00 or $145.00! After making four payments of $265. which was around $1060 for nothing. I cancel my service the same day and block the auto draft from my checking account. Bottom-line if you want to use CarChex you cannot take your vehicle to a BMW shop, you will have to take it to European car shop that don't charge BMW prices. You choice!

Ain't nothing simple sir...these folks are not in business to allow you to take the car to your desired shop, but theirs.
Waste of money, might as well put some money aside for repairs and keep the freedom to make your own choices. |

I agree 100%. I cancel my account with them, and start putting the $265.00 in a saving account to cover any breakdown till I buy the 2021 new X5M.

Bought Carchex 5/100 when I purchased my '12 X5M back in January. Right off the bat I had my doubts and never felt comfortable with them especially when they are just the brokers and not the insurers.
I was lucky to have cancelled my plan within the 30 day grace period and got my full refund back. Try not to make any claim and you'd get more money back that way. |

I had a similar issue with my CLS55. One of there reps actually forwarded me an internal e-mail saying this customer is batshit crazy... I saw it really fast and canceled the contract the same day. If you can't keep internal e-mails...INTERNAL... sorry. Not going to trust you with an AMG.... this is from 2010 as they do not warranty any AMGs anymore

100% truth, my mechanic begged me to cancel my 3rd party warranty. We have been family friends for 20+ years and has gotten me out of many-a-bind. Don't ever get an aftermarket warranty and NEVER trust anyone that swears by them... they do this for a reason.

The only good warranty is factory. Anything after they would make everything possible not to pay or pay very little. That include the CPO. I just had a similar experience with my Audi sq5 which have Audi extended warranty and one of the wheel bearings had to be replaced. Of course, that was one of the "few" things the warranty won't cover as it is being considered a "normal wear" unless after removal and inspection of the part they decide it was a abnormal wear. And of course, they said it was normal wear and I had to pay for everything, labor and part. Normal wear for a genuine Audi part, and the car has only 60,000km... Not to mention that there is even a service bulletin for that and they had already replaced the other side which also got bad a year ago . The only difference was that at that time the car was still under factory warranty.
And of course, I just experienced something similar with bmw. Moral of the story, never get any kind of extended warranty if you have to pay additional. Even less if it is a third party warranty. This is just pure robbery! They all the same, a bunch of thief, with different names: Audi, bmw, you name it. From now one I will never get any kind of extended warranty. If something happens, I will pay from my pocket at that point. It always comes out from my pocket anyways, but this way at least I don't have to deal with all the scumbag and don't give them free $. |

Not really.
Good 3rd party warranty companies are expensive and are out there. I had Fidelity for my 997 TT Porsche and they paid $2800 for the rear spoiler failure. I know several others where the repairs were paid off too. EasyCare is another good one. The best way of going around doing this would be to ask your local dealer what they sell and consider either going with them or get an individual quote from the same company on your own. Regardless, a good extended warranty quote would be around $1000-$1500/year depending on the age and the mileage of the vehicle. I have been on the forums for a long time and have seen people abusing these warranties all the time so what do you expect the quotes would be especially from good companies, expensive of course. CarChex/Delta Protect/ AutoShield/Concord Auto Protect etc are all scams. As long as you are willing to pay, you can find a good plan. Last edited by quick; 11-30-2019 at 10:11 AM.. |
