Getting rid of interior noise

I was somewhat surprised at how much creaking noises X5 makes, especially when you first start driving in the morning and when making a turn into uneven surface.

In my case, the source of the issue was hatch area, cargo floor cover, side panels in cargo area, and the top part of door panel.

I was able to get fix most of them using just two items - felt tape and WD40 PTFE Dry Lube Spray. The spray seems almost magical but will have to wait and see how long its effect will last.

I sprayed it where plastic to plastic contact makes squeaks, and the noise disappeared instantly.

I used felt and electric tape but after a couple of months the noises always came back ended up getting a trunk alignment at the dealer for 200$ and it's been noise free for over a year

Thanks for posting; interesting idea to utilize the WD40 Dry Spray.

Please let us know if the product makes a difference.

Whatever you use, be sure to test it in an out-of-the-way spot before you go fogging down the whole car with it. Many of the aerosol vehicles (the liquid they use to make it spray better) are solvents of various types; make sure it doesn't attack - that is, melt or partially dissolve - any rubber or plastic that it may come into contact with.

I am super sensitive to creaks. Lots of felt tape, leather conditioner, and electrical tape (for the trunk thing that everyone does) did the trick for me. Every few weeks new sounds seem to develop - and I have to hunt them down and re-tape.

I never had this issue on my previous car (Audi), and will probably go back to Audi for my next car as its getting real tedious.

Rubber stoppers under the cargo floor cover and electrical tape on the trunk gate tabs worked for me. I do hear other little noises but sounds like either the leather from the seats or some where else in the trunk.

My front two seat belt fasteners creak so loudly! And a few small parts of the door panels...

I know what you mean. This one I used is type of Teflon and it does not interact with vast majority of materials.
One nice thing is it has a built-in thin straw for application.
I sprayed directly into where the contact is with a towel under the straw to catch excess lube.

I had 3 Mercedes and 2 Lexus in last 20 years and not a single creaking noise even until the car was 10 years old.

However, they all ride much softer, less impact to the car and chassis.
I do have to say that there is no excuse for BMW not making the door panels tighter.

Does it also have anything to do with X5/X6 which is basically American Car in a way.

I see same pattern with E vs ML model from Mercedes. I can clearly see much better material and build quality in E class. It's funny how some parts like buttons looks identical but the one in E is more solid.

Good plan. Oh, and the correct technical term for that "thin straw" is weasel peter.
