well it's that time of the year so I ordered this today from HD. I'll have to dethatch first than use my riding mower to pull this lawn sweeper since I don't have the bagging system. I usually mulch all year that's why I never picked a bagger up. than i'll finish it off with pulling the aerator behind and that should pretty much be it for the year as far as the lawn goes

Damn....you have all the toys! I've been holding off on buying most large power equipment (e.g. riding mower) since I don't really want to keep it in the garage and I can't build a shed where I live. Instead, I was going to expand the tiny, tiny deck and build in an weatherproof enclosure underneath to be able to store such things. Hopefully that'll be next year project.

That said, I bought a lawn speader.

Seems like it got good reviews and I certainly won't miss using a wheelbarrow.

LOL finally upgraded my Note3 to a Note9! I couldn't believe how much these phones are nowadays and probably the reason it took me so long to upgrade

Just fyi some thatch is a good thing, it protects the turf crown from being damaged by traffic (aka riding mower), also helps retain moisture. Anything under a half inch is okay. Aeration is typically all that is needed to keep it in check. I've actually never seen a lawn that needs de-thatching. Glad to hear you much while mowing, good call!

correct on the thatch but it's typical to dethatch, aerate and overseed this time of the year here in the Midwest as Winter is upon us. I checked mine and because I had a fungus problem earlier this summer I have a lot of dead grass mixed in with the healthy grass so dethatching will help pull some of that out of the mix

Also in the midwest and a pro. Disease and fungus were horrible this year for sure. Way too hot and humid, plus most companies were using too high of nitrogen making it even worse. Love to see how it looks next year, sounds like you love your lawn!

Neither disease nor fungus but Foxtail was horrible in my area this summer. I'm also in the Midwest. Also got it pretty good in some areas by sod webworm. Currently doing some spot overseeding and laying a little topsoil over those areas (after having done some raking) since not all the areas came back. Just aerated and split seeded the both yards last week. Kinda wanna try laying down some milorganite as well for the seed but will be doing a potassium feed later in the season for a pre-winter feed.

I was planning on throwing down some fungus treatment but decided my yard wasn't too bad but you can see clearly how awful they look in the lawn with the healthy grass so hopefully detaching will remove most of it. The only products I used this year was Scott's in the early Spring, RGS, Humic12 and Milo. Only thing with Milo is the shortage of stock everywhere. You guys watch Allyn Hayne The Lawn Care Nut or Ryan Knorr YouTube channel?

Totally agree on the Foxtail! I have those everywhere? What can I use to eliminate those? For Winters I just throw down Scott's again and call it a year. The local lawn company will be doing its annual sprinkler winterizing special for $40 in October and that's usually when I let the lawn go dormant

Ha! I started watching Allyn Hayne. Some of it gets repetitive but he has character and I still learn something.

My understanding is that you pretty much have to dig foxtail out. If bad enough, some fill and seed would be needed. I think the quinclorac (Q4) I hit mine mostly did the trick but I also never did a follow-up treatment. My house is new construction and I have a privately owned empty lot next to mine so I think I got it mostly from there (along w/ some other stuff). I'll have to be a lot more proactive next year. I have a lawn care company that I use and they'll come out and put down a pre-emergent in the spring at no charge.

I think I am going to slowly take over the weed and lawn feeding, though. I calculated the cost of milo and it'd be near $200/feeding. If I went down to a half lb per 1000 sq ft, it'd cost about $100. My biggest challenge in the backyard is that it was all seeded by the builder so it needs to thicken out in all the random barespots. I also have gotten a fair amount of lawn rust in areas. My dog looks like he got into a bag of doritos if he scamps about long enough. The front is a lot better but got hit by sod webworm. Now I know what to look for so I'll smite those bastards next year if I see them.

LOL I've been watching Allyn since I first bought my house 2 years ago. didn't realize what it takes to keep the lawn looking good. I've got about 20k so I use about 10 bags of Milo. I think i'm pretty much done with the weeds this year since winter is around the corner and the grass should be going dormant soon. I did a better job this year than last year as last year I had no clue WTF I was doing I'm getting better but i'd rather put the money in my BMW but cheese and rice lawn maintenance gets expensive too especially when you have to buy lawn equipment. just bought that battery powered Ryobi BackPack sprayer someone here mentioned as the 4 gallon manual back pack sprayer I use is just too much labor

New to me, bought it preowned, this Boccia/Tutima 728-01 Ana/Digi watch, civil version. Military version was restricted to just 400 units and delivered at the beginning of 2002 to the German troops into Afghanistan.
Hard to get for a realistic price, I am pleased with this one at the moment.
