X5 F15 Change 6.5" CID to 10.25" Possibble?

My new X15 came with small CID, hard to see and want to change to the 10.25" screen. No NAV just basic controls. Just want the bigger screen. Can it be replaced with simple plug and play or do I have to change entire radio unit? Thanks for any help.

You will need the NBT head unit to drive the 10" screen.

i hate how bmw has 2 different size screens in their cars. the smaller screens always look bad and i doubt the bigger screens cost bmw more to install. its like they penalize you for not getting more options.

Garage List
That's exactly what they're doing... just like how they still offer halogen lights on some base model cars which from a safety perspective they should offer better lightning.

Anyways for the OP, you need a new head unit which would get you the navigation and everything.

I just did the swap on my 16 X5 30d. Is a very simple screen replacement and then code the car to recognize the large screen with a higher resolution. The swap took less than 20 minutes.

X5 F15 Change 6.5" CID to 10.25" Possibble?

Thanks mic325!

Why does everyone say you have to change to the NBT head? Even the retrofits require Nav and all the gadgets to use the 10.25" screen. And all you have to do is change to the larger screen and reprogram the resolution? Are you sure? No distortions on the screen? As photos attached are a bit blurry, not to sure. Please confirm this is possible. Hope so! Thanks

That's what I asked my garage who did the mod for me. He is a very experienced BMW Tuner and he said if I don't need the Navigation, the easiest way is to change the screen. I was sitting in the car while he swap the unit and code the car. No distortion at all, this is the same as the car with Nav only without the Nav function. Split screen display also work too.

It cost me $700 USD to do this swap, as opposed to $2,300 USD for the iDrive 6 + Nav mod.

I will take some more photos in the morning tomorrow.

X5 F15 Change 6.5" CID to 10.25" Possibble?

Does your idrive controller wheel have the Nav option on it? If it doesn't, then it's the same as mine and I guess it will work. Can you also send me a picture of your idrive controller? Thanks

Does it look like this? No Nav? Then I guess it's fine.

Mine is the "small" version that doesn't have the Nav. I will send it tomorrow too.

Hi mic325, a friend of mine is looking to change to bigger screen. Can you recommend the car shop that you went to do the install? I am in HK too! Many thanks

X5 F15 Change 6.5" CID to 10.25"

Hi Mic325,
I'm also in HKG and looking to retrofit my X5's screen to 10.25".
Could you advise the car shop you used for this? I guess they can code as well if needed?
