BMW conversion from US to EU

Hey,
I need your help. I bought my X5 in the USA. Model F15.

I managed to convert the radio to the EU version and change the language version to PL with iPad.
Now I'm struggling with navigation.

I downloaded navi "BMW NBT Road Map Europe Europe NEXT 2018-2". After unpacking 24 winrar files, I have a directory with 5 folders (numerically named - 1,2,3,4,5) and three files named "config.nfm", "NBT_ECE_101173.3.111.pkg" and "NBT_ECE_101173.3.111.sig" .

I'm losing everything on 64GB pendrives. I put the pendrive into the USB port on the clipboard and nothing happens. I've tried with 3 other pendrives - the effect is the same.

Originally I have uploaded maps "Road Map NORTH AMERICA Next 2014-2A" code "NBT_H14202A".

Format the USB drive the right way and try it again.

I don't think you can simply upload Europe maps in to US programmed NBT HU. You will need to reprogram the NBT to accept Europe maps.

Yes you can, my F15 and F16 both came with Europe maps, but they are US spec.

OP, after you extracted with WinRar, then you should copy everything from folder called NAVXXXXXXX to the root of your USB stick. (not the full navxxxxx folder just the content from inside). Insert and it should start automatically.

Thank you for your help.

The problem was the formatting of the Pendrive.

So let's say I decide to take my car to Europe for a road trip, I can get the Euro maps and load into my car without any programming?

Yes
I loaded European maps on both my F16 an F15, it can be done with a usb and the correct files. Then later when they were shipped to the US, NA maps were installed.

Thanks, that's good to know. I do have one of these trips planned for the future.

Awesome. My recommendation is to have a USB with each country/region on it and a lifetime code, switch and update as needed.

I know it is an old thread but can I ask how you managed to convert the radio to the European frequencies (both odd and even)?

Thank you.

Not OP, but I was messing around with bimmercode, trying to see if I could enable TMC for those of us who lost RTTI when we lost 3G for traffic info.
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1778890

I'm guessing that there's probably some type of coding under HU_NBT for it.

Thank you very for your reply and for sharing!
Your experience with the radio might mean that actually a physical replacement of the radio is not needed probably?
I am slowly preparing for my move to Europe.
How easy would the switching on the navigation would be with Europe maps? Would there be coding involved or just installing European maps?
My vehicle is actually a 2020 X1.
Thanks again.

I think you have iDrive 6 in your X1. Take a look at the following thread: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1173061

It seems that you can do it through something like bimmercode. I haven't read of anyone ever needing to physically change out the stereo when making the move overseas.

As for the maps, I don't have any experience with that, but you should just be able to just load the European maps on a USB drive and update that way. If you get the maps, I would make sure you have both and just test it, if it works, just reload the us maps after until you make the move.

Thank you for all this as the suggestions are very informative and practical! I appreciate it! I am saving the info regarding the coding for the radio and will play with it once I am in Europe with the vehicle.

The Telematics Unit, if I want it also working in Europe (because of Connected Drive), will be another ordeal. Those units here are related to AT&T and it will not be a matter of just putting another SIM card.

For the Navigation maps, do you know how and where I can buy European maps with the code and also how would I get a copy of my currently installed USA maps?

Thank you again for being so helpful!

Best!
