Before I cough up 600$+tax at the dealer for a new key with reprogramming was wondering if anyone has a better alternative. I was aware keys with comfort access was a bit more expensive but damn 600$..they said key was 425 and reprogramming 175$

I have had instances where I lost track of one, got damn pissed, but ended up finding it. Sucks to cough up so much.
Going forward, first thing I do once I enter the house is to put them in a box. Prefer to spend money on mods! |

Lucky you last time I lost a key was for my E39 M5 which was 175$ at the dealer oh how times have changed. Would be fine with just one key fob but my wife lost it in front of our house after taking out groceries so it has me a bit worried. Local dealer said it was 175$ just to disable the lost key fob figured If Im paying that much just for 15-20 minutes might as well order a new key

Luckily, I park the car in the garage as wife is scared of scratching it in our narrow 2-car garage. So she leaves the key in the center console for me to park it. I think your lost keyfob must have been grabbed by a rabbit or squirrel by now... |

I recently purchased the fob and key blade from BimmerTech. It was $515 altogether. Key fob worked well after following their activation instructions. If you buy the key blade, definitely test it. Mine didn't work, though BimmerTech remedied the situation by having the dealership they use in the Midwest cut a new key blade that did work.
I did try calling a few dealers in Washington and Idaho- they didn't seem to be able to offer any better pricing. |

Well seems like Bimmertech is the cheapest at 510$ which includes the fob and blade also the programming seems very straight forward 5-10 minutes not sure why my dealer was saying it's a 1 hour job. Just got to a email from my SA at my local dealer and he said the 600$ was just for the fob and the programming, the key blade is another 179$ . Seems like a no brainer with bimmertech but I still need to get my lost key disabled which bimmertech said they would get back to me on thanks guys

Got word from bimmertech and was told I would have to deactivate lost key fob at dealer which would still be 175$ for the minimum hour labor. Called a few other dealers and actually got better pricing anywhere from 436-466$ for key fob and blade key + 175$ for disabling lost and reprogramming new key I guess this is my only option. Well all I can say is don't lose your keys boys!!

Pmed..I actually got recommended to a local coder @bm_coding_nyc (his ig) that can supply a new key along with disabling my lost one for a very reasonable price which comes with a key blade as well but not cut would have to take that to my local locksmith which is about 25-30$ still all in all half the price of a dealer.

Armando Diaz at BMW of Manhattan quoted me $343.23 + $10 shipping for a new FOB last year. You send him a copy of your license and registration, pay him, and then he mails you the FOB. His e-mail is Armando.Diaz@bmwnyc.com.

Those are instructions for the old style BMW keys that were used from approx 1994-2006 when BMW keys had a metal key blade...and the car actually had an ignition cylinder. Plus, those instructions are only for programming the remote key to the FZV & DWA (central locking & anti-theft alarm siren system)...it does nothing to allow the car to start (EWS). That procedure initiates the GM (general module) to assign a key number to the remote and a new rolling code table...and any remote key not programmed in that same session will no longer be able to lock/unlock and arm/disarm the car. But again...it does nothing about allowing the key to start the car. That would be EWS and its communication is totally different and operates on a different frequency than central locking and alarm systems. Buy one of those remotes...and you 'll have a nice non working BMW trinket. Programming Additional BMW Key FobsThe instructions above are taken from the info below...and as you can see...these are the old gen BMW keys...and it initializes the remote to the GM...which a new gen BMW does NOT have.

Ended up getting it done at the dealer, It seems every dealer has similar pricing for the fob and cut key its actually the programming/labor cost that is random. I was told labor charges was mostly 1 hour at 175$ with some dealers even saying 2 hours which was crazy. There was couple of dealers a bit further away that said it doesn't take longer than 20-25 minutes and I would be charged half an hour of labor at 80$ for disabling my lost key and programming the new one I spoke to my local dealer and asked if they'd match the labor cost and they agreed. Hope this helps to whoever needs a key as its obvious it isn't a 1-2 hour job.

My dealership has been getting a lot better about being more accommodating and understanding so I will talk to them at my next visit to get a price-tag.
Thanks for saving me the headache fellas... |
