X5M, X6M, X3M, X4M Not Considered "M Models" by BMWNA
I've been going back and forth with BMWCCA and BMWNA about this for a while now. This originated when I submitted my BMWCCA rebate request for my CPO F85 for $500 under "M Models". Instead of a $500, I was told by both BMWCCA and BMWNA that the refund would be $250 (for non-M models), as BMWNA does not consider the X5M (along with X6M, X3M, etc.) true "M Models" but rather "touched by M". This is not as much about the $250 but rather the advertisement issued by BMWUSA / BMWNA and lack of compliance with their own set standards.
These standards are pretty clear and can be seen on bmwusa.com where these models are all listed under "M Models" (https://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/m-models.html). Attached is the e-mail repose from BMWNA to the BMWCCA rep I'm dealing with. Pretty absurd and knocking on the door of false advertisement, if BMWNA wants to stick to their guns on that statement. Any attorneys in the room that want to chime in?

That's absurd!! "Touched by M" WTF???
I'm really shocked to read this. It has to be a mistake, despite the email you posted from BMWNA. GL

OK,tell them to go official BMW site and go under M models, they will find them under M models.

I'm still following up and moving it up the ladder as far as I can. Looks like an intern response that doesn't even know what a sedan is. I'm disappointed at the lack of training and quality assurance / control of these responses from BMWNA, however, it's not just one person. This is a BMWCCA program wide directive that was issued from BMWNA, according to BMWCCA reps and even the rebate admin. They get their direction from BMWNA on the amount to issue as a rebate.

That's exactly what I did. Neither side is budging. So it gets even more ridiculous. It's like I'm arguing with a child with zero sense of reason or facts to support their statement.

I reached out to my contact at CCA, and received the following emailed response. How can they think it's a standard X5!!

Nice X5 "m-sport" you got there.... Looks like it's a one way street. They sell it as an M Model but rebate it as a non-M. Good business ethics.

BMW's own internal designation makes it very clear:
F15 m-sport is an X5. F85 is an M. If they are still having issue with this then show them BMW's own internal training: "The BMW M family is being enhanced with the addition of the F85 (BMW X5M) and F86 (BMW X6M) vehicle types." Surely this has to be an administrative error as this is total crap. The non M owners are going to have a field day with this.

If you would like to take a step further all motors used in true ///M vehicles are designated with an S. The F85/F86 use the S63B44T2 variant of the the N63B44TU. Again pointing to the fact that BMW itself regards the vehicle as an ///M product.

Whoever wrote that email is a dolt. Dummy is not even consistent within the same email. In one sentence they list only the M2, M3 and M4 but in the next sentence the M5 and M6 are added to the list. And I guess the definition of sedan has been changed at BMW, too...

That's BS. Everything about the advertising, website setup, and S-engine makes it an M. I'm even considering selling my M4 and going for an X4M in no small part because it is still an M, with M performance, parts, and programming.
Keep pushing OP; any others who have already been dinged for this? It may only be $250 a person, but this adds up to thousands across other CCA buyers. I wouldn't drop it, and won't when it comes time for me to buy either. One of those billboard lawyers would probably jump all over the false advertising on this one. |

My contact has told me that that "from BMW M leadership that the issue has been resolved. It was an error of the sales incentive system."
Have already sent a PM to the original poster. |

Just got a call back from xxxxx from BMW NA. He said he works for the division that runs the CCA program. He apologized for everything, said it was an error in the system that had listed all these cars as "non-M models" and said they were going back to correct it. They're sending out the remaining $250 to me.
The most annoying part about all of this was the amount of stubborn people I had to deal with from BMW NA telling me that they are not considered M models, which should be a huge concern for the BMW marketing group. Lots of re-training needed.... Thanks all for the support.
