Body roll /suspension question
I bought my used 2015 x5 about a year ago, I was coming from a 2018 x5 lease, so I was confident I would love how this one drove, but come to find out it drives COMPLETELY different. So much body roll, steering is loose as hell, it feels like I'm driving a boat. Not what I expect from a bmw. Well here I am still trying to figure out the difference between the two models. The 2018 was not an m-sport, my used 2015 is. Some people chalk it up to the electric steering, but my 18 had electric steering and it was fine. Now I'm seeing suspension questions, I don't know what suspension the 18 lease had, but the window sticker on my 15 says I have the standard suspension, but my car can switch between comfort, sport, and eco pro at the flick of a button, which I'm reading Is an adaptive m suspension feature? Any insight and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

No, that’s not the adaptive M Suspension.
Post the last 7 digits of each VIN and you’ll know the difference very quickly.

I did a quick review and it looks like they both have the standard suspension.

The mystery continues...lol thanks man I appreciate it. I wonder why they drive so differently, the 18 really hugged the road/felt so much tighter steering wise. The 15 really feels like a boat, I've definitely gotten used to it, but really want that old feel back.

Is it possible that the first one was previously lowered?

Nah man zero chance, car cAme brand new from the dealer. It did have a nicer feeling steering wheel though even though it wasn't an m sport wheel like the one in my 15, maybe that has something to do as far as steering feel goes. I'm considering trying the eibach springs to help with the body roll/handling, def don't want to lower the car too much because I do want to maintain the ground clearance for snow 💪🏼

I hear u man, I Agree tires/wheels definitely make a big difference, but this 2015 x5 jus drives like a boat in general, I've had 22inch pierelli run flats on it all summer, I just switched to my 19s. I do see other members with the same issue as far as body rolling/loose steering, I'm probably gonna give the eibach springs a try next spring

I just test drove a '17 Msport with standard suspension an hour ago. I was all set to buy it until I drove it. It too had that swaying boat feel. I was soooo upset about this because I thought I'd be driving home a "new" car today. But just didn't have that tight steering that I expected. I'm coming from a base '13 e70 X5 with standard non air suspension. I can throw that thing into corners without thinking twice. I thought the '17 would be at least as good if not better.
Do you think it can be that the shocks/struts are worn? I'm doing research now hoping to remedy the issue, cause I really want an F15. How many miles do you have on your '15? |

Too bad no one makes aftermarket sway bars for the F15, else it would make the car feel great even with standard suspension.

Can't compare brand new 2018 to used 2015, new car alayws tighter when it comes to suspension.
Also there is a big chance BMW update the S/W for electric steering, due to so many bad reviewes on non-M feel for electric steering. 2018 > 2015 here |

I think this is the most plausible explanation. I see it as more worn down parts along with maybe better steering software. How do you check software version Of the vehicle and compare to the newest?

Yea I'm sure they could. Also wondering about the KW V3. It's an option if it will bring significant improvement.
