EGR Cooling issue
No, I have not figured this out. I have my check engine light on for quite sometime about this issue.

Some codes are directly related to component failures but others are not directly related. I am not familiar with this code but could be related to the volume of air expected from EGR to be introduced into the manifold intake. This volume is calculated based on pre-defined maps and sensor inputs so the DME knows how to correct the injection. As feedback loop the NOx sensors can tell the DME if the level of NOx expected has been achieved.
Also notice there is a particular code related to EGR bypass 331800 (remember F15 has 2 EGR coolers ... high pressure (next to exhaust manifold) and low pressure (in front of the engine ... related to recall). The bypass valve is located on top of the high pressure EGR. I would start testing the EGR bypass valve and later the EGR valve (part of the low pressure EGR). You will need ISTA to run those tests. Search for EGR bypass ABL and run the test ... same for EGR valve. BMW has built those into ISTA to easily identify failures. |

I forgot to mention ... its very handy also to have some data inputs from key sensors on the engine like coolant temp, EGR target position, EGR mass flow, charge flow, ... the easiest way to get they is by using OBD reader like bm3 or kiwi3 (there are others but I am not familiar) ... and App Bimmerlink.
Just an example how it looks like |

EGR
Actually I think it would be easier to get rid of the EGR and EGR cooler altogether.
Will it clog the DPF? Instead of spending money to get exhaust pipes etc, can the DPF be hollowed out? But I think getting rid of the check engine light my require tunning. What is your thoughts on this option?
