You are welcome.

The orange gunk was LiquiMoly Ceratec ceramic protectant.

And what about the engine flush stuff, you put in prior to changing the oil?

Also LiquiMoly. Seems to thin out the oil. Strong petroleum odor.

Thanks for the video. I think I've driven 500 miles in the last year since wfh. I'll start changing my oil now as I'm officially out of maintenance warranty.

So you use this to thin out the oil before a oil change. So do you see any benefit to this? I know that goal to remove as much of the old oil as possible.

In my E63 AMG, I also drain the oil cooler, that yields about 1/2 quart by itself.
For my next oil change on the X5M, I'm going to use Liqui Moly, and try their Ceratac Ceramic.

Great post, thank u!

I may get crucified for this but when the oil drain gets slow I will usually crank the engine and let it run for about 2-3 seconds and cut it off. It will usually yield another 1/2 quart. I figure that this amount of time is the same as waiting on the oil to start circulating any time u start the car.

EDIT: oops...I jumped the gun and wrote this before watching your video to the end...where you mention you discovered why you had the extra bits...which were for the early n63 engines.

Ditto...great video.

But to answer a question you asked (approx 13:34 into your video) as to having some spare parts left over from the oil filter kit...that is due to early versions of the n63 engine have a drain in the oil filter cap. This extra drainage capability was phased out as the N63TU/TU2/etc was phased in across the F & G chassis models...but the oil drain cap is used on multiple models (the old style & new style). If you have one of the original caps with a drain and need a new one...then your new one will be "drain-less".

You can see the drain plug and gasket (#3 & #4) in the F models (5/6/7/X5/X6) diagram below. And as noticed in your video...having a drain in the oil filter cap probably wasn't a bad idea...not sure why BMW stepped away from being able to drain the oil out of the filter...it would be a little less messy. But due to those early models having a drain...the oil kit has the extra bits in them.

Those damn extra parts threw me for a loop as I was thinking I missed a drain plug and was installing oil filter wrong.

What DIDN'T make the final cut...kinda embarrassing...was me mucking around the hot oil for signs of a damn o-ring. Lol. I drained it slowly with a mesh and all. Of course found nothing.
