Any one know if bimmercode can activate the sport suspension in ECO Pro mode? the eco pro suspension feels like a floaty boat and I would rather have sport suspension on all the time.

Greeting from Malaysia. I am David and driving a X5 40e.
I think u can only activate sport suspension on Sport mode. That's my default setup. Yes, the suspension is so soft and my kids get nausea riding it.

Hi All,

Anyone know what x5 40e's EV battery capacity warranty is? i3s have that EV Battery warranty of 70% capacity minimum by year 8.

For reference: I am the original owner of my 2016 x5 40e. I noticed that my charger has been recording ~4kWh per full charge (green light). The battery capacity was 9kWh when we first made the purchase. That's a 50% drop within 5 years.

Ugh, it took me a while to find out. Found it from here (for any future references): https://www.bmwusa.com/explore/bmw-v...nty-books.html

High-Voltage Lithium-Ion Battery
Limited Warranty (X5 xDrive40e,
produced on or after 6/1/2015)

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW NA) warrants
the high-voltage lithium-ion battery assembly
against defects in materials or workmanship for a
period of 8 years/80,000 miles, whichever occurs
first.

Battery performance and durability, including
high-voltage lithium-ion batteries, is
temperature-dependent. While battery capacity
increases in higher temperatures, colder
temperatures will lower the battery’s capacity.
Extreme high and/or low temperatures may
impact the battery’s service life.

New user on here, but had my 2016 40e for just over a year and still loving it

360 cam, pan sunroof are the highlights

We're normally 95% electric only as we do short journeys. Still getting about 16-17 miles from a full charge.
It's done 102,000 miles but I think the previous owner mainly did petrol-only journeys. I think the odo on BMW Online showed it had done only 3,000 miles on electric when I picked it up last year

Thanks!

I brought it into a dealership and was told that the total capacity needs to be below 30% of original to qualify for warranty. The process would require them to remove the battery and do a full discharge/charge. If it's <30%, then you get a free battery claim. If not, it'll be $600usd.

Honestly, I'm not fully convinced by this guy and may get a second source.

$600 USD? Did the dealership get the 12v battery confused with the high-voltage hybrid battery? LOL, the hybrid battery is like 10k or something. If it was $600 I'll drive down to your dealership now to get them to replace my hybrid battery (without issues) with a brand new one

It sounds like they're confusing the 12v warranty with the lithium ion warranty. Might be worth sending an email to corporate or something.

New owner here, 2018 X5 40e. It's working great for us but I have a charging issue and I wonder if anyone else is experiencing the same thing.

If the car is put on to charge with less than 30% battery remaining and its cold, 10Cº or lower, the car will reach 100% charge at the estimated time of completion, however the car will remain "charging" for several hours after. During this time its pulling low, end of charge power, 0.1kWh type of thing but it refuses to complete the charge for sometimes up to 13 hours! If I interrupt the charging once it reaches 100% it will complete charging within minutes after being put back on charge.

BMW tried to fix the issue by replacing the aux heater unit for £1244, but that made no difference at all. They are now telling me this is normal 40e behaviour.

Is this normal behaviour? I think not as it completes charging fine if the battery is over 50%.

Have you experience this and managed to find the issue?

Thanks for any comments.

Hello, yes. I have the same issue here as well. It's kind of annoying, but I'm not sure I would go out of my way to spend that kind of money to remedy it, given the cost benefit on what you said you had already tried to spend on it.

Yeah, I wouldn’t normally bother but I’ve got 4 months warranty on it left so the cost is greatly reduced to myself.
My unlock car or pause charger works fine as a workaround. Was interested to see if this is a more common issue.

Hi all - found a 2016 xdrive40e with 44k miles, good service records, no major red flags. I know 2016 was a good year for regular X5’s, but does anyone have any advice on the hybrid? Money trap? Or would you go for a used one if you were in the market?

Well any vehicle could give you a headache or nothing at all, roll of the dice really!
but I've had 50k problem free miles in my 40e and it's still going strong.

Their a rare sight as you don't see many around.

It's been a great car and was able to get 1000k miles this summer on one tank of fuel! So that was great!

2016 X5 40e Used

I bought mine with about 45K on it and am in love. I have never got more than 15 miles on battery only, but most of my drives use battery only, or just a mile or two of gas at the end. Power is cheap in Idaho, I pay .08c per KW. I feel like I am stealing when I drive it. It's also great that I can go into Sport and shift manual when I want to feel some juice. I swear i can do 0-60 in under 6 seconds. I have the giant racing tires in the rear so I am not looking forward to replacing them, but it has been a great purchase.

Hopes for X540e

I do have a wish list for this ride though. 1, It came with 3G and so all the online features are dead. I really want a way to update this, but my Local dealer wont even discuss doing any upgrade unless it is on the BMW approved list and for some reason mine is not. 2. I would like to see updgraded hybrid batteries. I see them for Prius and Tesla. I would think we could get them too. 15 miles is great, but 30-50 would be perfect. 3. I want to learn how to code it so that the LED color changes, and it always starts in Eco Pro.

Very nice X5. I looked at one - 2018 sapphire black/mocha with 20's and running boards. Very comfortable ride.

I'm not a fan of Eco Pro. It wasn't charging my 12v when I used it extensively and I didn't see better battery range over comfort (since you lose regenerative abilities). Maybe I'll look into it again in the summer.

You can get some type of remote start back. I posted here what you need to change with Bimmercode and you'll be able to remote start with your key fob. You lose the alarm yelling function (or whatever your 4th button is on your fob).

As far as traffic information that uses connecteddrive, I enabled standard RTTI via Bimmercode but won't know if it works until 3G is shut off as I still have an active subscription. Standard RTTI isn't as fast as extensive RTTI but if it works, it'll be some option still available via idrive (although, I do recommend installing an MMI. I usually stick with Android Auto when it comes to map stuff).

You can get Mission Tuning to unlock the battery. It'll probably void your warranty on the hybrid battery, but a couple people have said that range is much better (I think they were getting 15 before, 23-25 after?).

Yeah, it would be great if there was an aftermarket hybrid battery alternative for these cars. BUT it would be a PITA to do (I think you need a hoist to fit inside the cargo area and remove the seats). Also, a Prius battery is like 2k (aftermarket) but the battery in the 40e is like 7x larger. Maybe a company will come out with replacement modules instead of total replacement.
