Damn that sucks. Hope everyone is ok, that's the important thing.

Thanks Russmov - yeah it was a pretty soft hit, I saw her coming and couldn't do anything except take my foot off the brake for a brief second to lighten the impact as there was a car in front of me but I had just enough time to re-apply the brakes. She was cool, apologized I'm mainly just upset about the now lower value with eventual resale....UGH

Yeah that part definitely sucks. But maybe that just means you drive it into the ground now instead of worrying about trading. Always depends on your personal situation of course, but if they really try to low ball on trade it's probably easier to hold it. Luckily you had the wherewithal to see it coming.(the other driver )

There are posts on here with details, I'd definitely go for it! It's not that difficult of a job and the parts are most likely very close in cost...

Maybe some cash out of pocket for the exhaust work but man that would be a terrific upgrade!

Ya I had it off to install the tow hitch so I figured why not. I learned from this and covered the tips with some painters paint. What hit it the worst is the PDS cable that hangs down on the passenger side got caught as it hangs down in front of the exhaust outlet of the bumper and just smooshed right through the paint. I'll give it till tonight to cure. Then I'll sound down the edges and then tape off the bumper and add a few layers of black. I've also decided I don't like this duplicolor black caliper paint for the exhaust. Probably woulda liked it for the calipers. It's more of a thick smooth looking black than a shiny black which may not be a bad thing to be honest. Was gonna do the rear calipers while I was at it working on the hitch but battling the grey color that kept happening when it dried and some issues I was happening with wiring up the oem active harness I had enough For one day.

Love it. What paint did you use on the exhaust tips? I'm thinking of using the VHT Engine enamel in gloss black. I was going to pick up the high heat primer and the gloss black and drop them off at the body shop when I drop my car off to get repaired. I don't think they have high heat paint laying around but I could be wrong? I think I'm sticking with my OEM style bumper as mine is a 35d. As much as I like the X5M rear bumper I think I'll just keep it stock looking.

Got em knocked out. Love this semi gloss grill paint so much better. Wish I woulda started with this stuff or the duplicolor caliper paint. Not perfect. Had issues getting all the bad paint off and got tired of trying. So sanded down as much as I had patience to and then put a couple coats on. Hopefully once some soot builds up it'll hide some of the imperfections. Also decided to paint the rear reflectors gloss black while I had them off for the tow hitch and they came out great!!!! Much better than dropping $85 on some custom carbon black ones. Glad I could save the money. Unfortunately I already bought the front ones for $115 or whatever they cost but if I could do it again I would just tape them off and spray gloss black too!

Looks much better than silver chrome imho. Yeah, with 50i rest assured soot will cover that in no time Will look perfecto!

When my x5 was in for body work the shop had painted them for me while the bumper was off. They used the same paint they use for callipers and brakes. Turned out nice. I'm happy with the outcome.
They didn't do the inside of the tips so it looks a bit off at the moment, but they had also wiped the inside down, so I'm sure after a few miles they will be black inside anyway.

No joke. Not sure why people are painting them? Mine are painted a nice matte black with soot from my right foot.

Doesn't look bad but does kind of blend in. At least you have the beefier exhaust tips. Maybe I want my scrawny tips to blend in, lol. I'd paint black in a heart beat if I had the m sport rear bumper. The body color surrounds really showcase the black tips.
