Imho I would get aftermarket add on (slip on) tips, no need to paint, no need to even go to a muffler shop, just a 10 min to put them on using a simple wrench. Stock ones are just not good imho, no painting will help, they are just too plain and small diameter to look good. Just my opinion man.

Something like this - keep in mind you can chose different material combo (like CF or black etc) and color of them (there are burnt steel blue etc) and they are 3'' inlet and 4'' outlet - so they will fill up your exhaust bumper outlet nicely: https://www.amazon.com/NETAMI-NT-305...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Mines already starting to come off of the rounded tip area. I can start seeing some chrome. Oh well. I'll just clean it up and throw some more coats on.

Try dipdoctor.com
located in surrey.
did my exhaust tips and did a good job with reasonable price. Make sure to ask Jordan, the shop owner, to do it himself.

I totally agree with you. 3" inlet with 4" outlet is the info I needed to know. Like you said the 4" outlet should look beefier and fill out the bumper outlet. Not sure I want to go with the cf look but like you said black or even a hyper black would look better than what I have now. I appreciate your insight.

Any clue what overall length of the tip I should be looking for? Some say 12" long which seems way to long.

I think 12'' is way too long - it will simply not fit and will hit the angle of stock piping and will end up sticking out too much. If I have to guess 6'' should eb enough, but I really don't have 35i nearby to just simply measure with a ruler how much 6'' inch will go inside and if it's enough or not. If you can take a 5min and a ruler and measure it please - just stick a ruler and see for yourself what depth you are comfortable with. Also you can measure exhaust tip diameter to make sure 3'' inlet will be enough for slip ons.

This is stock 35i exhaust just for visual representation. You basically just need 1-2'' inches to cover sticking out part of tips and another 3-4'' to cover inside the bumper exhaust opening, I don't think 12'' can even fit in there, 6'' should be enough imho, but it's better to measure with a ruler to be sure:

Yeah, 12" will be way to long. I'll measure tomorrow and let you know.

So stock tip for 35i measures 5" long from the top of the tip (slightly slanted tip). So a 6" aftermarket tip should work nicely. So I'm assuming you can simply tug on the stock tip and it will slid off? I didn't see any welds. Wasn't sure so didn't tug on it so wasn't able to measure the inlet diameter but it appears to be 3". Also, the OD of the tip is 3.5" so a 4" or even 4.5" OD aftermarket tip should fill out the space nicely. I'm leaning towards 4.5".

Yes, 4.5'' OD would be nice! However, I suspect stock tip could be welded and can't be removed. In that case maybe there is a aftermarket tip that can slid on top of 3.5'' stock tip?

-i will clean rigorously, inside the tip and around it (jesus this sounds bad); will use a light degreaser/cleanser such as simple green
-i will block/tape off the area from overspray
-wipe with areas i want to paint with isopropyl 70/30 mix
-use a self-etching Rust-Oleum primer grey for 2 coats (full coverage)
-use VHT high-temp gloss black paint using light coats till it's fully covered
-use VHT high-temp gloss clear using 2, full coverage light coats

allow for full cure - about 6 hours or so to be safe.

Hopefully someone can confirm if it's welded or not. Not sure I like the idea of putting a tip over a tip. Of course I could take to a muffler shop and have the stock tip cutoff. I'd obviously rather not go this route.

Here are my lack tips. I used VHT Roll bar and Chassis Gloss Black (part number SP670). Prepped by sanding the chrome tips with fine sand paper to roughen up the surfaCE. Cleaned extensively, then painted 4-5 layers, 10 min in between layers. Dries pretty quickly, cures in a day. I've done several washes and it has not come off at all.

This paint also works well to fill in a small scuff on my black wheel...

Also, I debadged and picked up the IND roundel with the black (instead of chrome) base. With the black license plate and tinted windows, I am very happy with the space gray and blacked out items......

Did you paint the tips while still installed?

Also are you lowered?

No, I had my bumper off while installing a Stealth Hitch.

No, mine is not lowered. Stock M-Sport with DHP. No air-suspension.

I'm just wondering for those of you who decided to paint the tips yourselves, how have they been holding up with time. Getting my used muffler and tips next week, debating painting them myself or getting them dipped.

Only four months in but perfect so far. I used Duplicolor engine enamel. I did a primer coat, three gloss black, then two clear coats.

Are there DIY's for rear bumper removal? What's the time frame you are finding to remove and reinstall the rear bumper?
