I stand corrected, service had expired Feb 1st so BMW was not in the wrong. My x6 still has service until July and I was about to place an order for two Carlink kits, but the deal breaker to me is that I won't get navigation on the HUD with these units which is why I loved BMW navigation so much. Don't really care about google/apple maps or waze, so I'll probably just have to learn to live without rtti.

Glad I found this thread. I'm just about to pull the trigger on a 2018 X5 Hybrid, but I won't move forward with it if I'll get cut off from BMW Connected in after a year. How do I find if this year/model is going to be affected?

CatalinP can correct me, but I do believe most models after 2016 are in the safe zone.

Wow BMW....not really the way to grow loyalty among your customer base. I am in the same boat with a 2016 X5 that didn't enter service until September 2016, So my 4yr old 40K mile car now has the technology from a car built in the late 1990's / early 2000s; with an unintelligent Navigation system. This was my 1st BMW, and if they cant resolve this will be my last. There are so many more options out there a this price point; one that comes to mind is the 2022 Acura MDX. Check out this video when they compare it to an X5

Sorry bro... not buying it. The MDX is nice, and I understand what you're trying to convey.. but they are comparing a basic ass X5 to a nice MDX 🤣

They could have compared it with something "higher" in the chain lol. Don't get me wrong, I too am upset about the loyalty base but the technology on a BMW is there. I'm not even a BMW fan... I just really like the 35d... my 2014 35d😩🤷🏽

But that MDX does look nice for sure!

Hi Yes and no, Yes they compared a base X5 to a loaded MDX, however the loaded up MDX vs a loaded BMW X5 is many thousands less. Looking at 61K for the loaded up MDX and a comparable X5 non "M" at 74K. Its a price point and features discussion. That's really all I was saying, but appreciate your perspective.

I guess what i am really surprised with the lack of chatter on this forum, with the fact that the connected drive features are done for some (today) and will be done for others soon.

Like I said, I understand what you're trying to convey... but it's still an Acura commercial bro.

Many people upgrade cars for newer technology. Yes, I'm bothered by it but let's be real... at the end of the day we're not going to loose sleep over it. Lets just hope BMW comes through like they did for the 2G people 🤷🏽

I'm still hopeful... guess only time will tell hu 😅😬

If yours is 2016 try to compare it with 2016 MDX as well. No need for Acura marketing here, they compare loaded Honda with basic X5, in very opinionated way and yeah it will be cheaper but it does cost extra to drive BMW its always was. Free market, if you love MDX so much why are you still here? Go get new Acura and enjoy, will be happy to hear some feedback from the person who switched from bimmer to Acura.

Hi not trying to market Acura. if you read my 2nd post youd see I compared the loaded MDX to a comparable 2021 X5, thats where the price comparison came from. Never said I loved the MDX. Was just presenting a comparison and a perspective. One last comment, are you asking me to leave the discussion because i have a different perspective?

Well you brought the MDX as an example of how many features it has, IMO Acura is not anywhere close to G05 or F15, and I don't really care about the price. You said that your 2016 is the 1st and possibly the last BMW and brought Acura into discussion, so to me it sounds like you like it and consider it as alternative to X5. I did not try to offend you in any way and not asking you to leave the discussion just saying that it would be interesting to hear the opinion how brand new MDX compares to 5 years old X5, you saying that it might be your last bimmer sort of brought me into the assumption that your are looking into moving along. We sure can try call BMW NA and provide the feedback, but I doubt they would do anything about it. Or just get the ID6 NBT unit from Ebay and retrofit it in.

Thank you for the note back and clarification. Lots to consider.

Who the hell cross shops these two? I mean if you want to compare, a Hyundai has all the features of the MDX and is cheaper, might was well throw it in there as well, right?

I am also glad I found this thread. BMW ConnectedDrive for our 2015 BMW X5 indicates:

- RTTI through 11/01/2021
- Teleservice, Remotes Services and Assist eCall and through 1/27/2025

iDrive shows 3G (as expected). iDrive also indicates that BMW Connected Store is not available.

Several questions:

- RTTI cannot be renewed after it expires on 11/01/2021?
- All other services may suddenly go dark in the near future? When?

Based on earlier responses, is BMW taking a tacit position that any hardware upgrades will have to be absorbed by the customer and performed by the BMW dealer to ensure that all installation + coding have been done correctly?

Think the reasoning for the comparison is that acura is also considered a luxury brand, so genesis and not hyundai would be a fairer comparison. Now, what defines luxury is open to interpretation and very much debatable. Heck, even Tesla with all its quality issues and cheap interiors dares to call itself a luxury brand

when I said Hyundai, I meant Genesis which is considered a luxury brand.

As my first post on here, it is a sad one lol.

It is quite annoying that our X5s have literally become a rolling brick of tech without the tech... No remote safety features like SOS or accident notification. No more remote control or ventilation.

I got off the phone with BMW Customer Relations and was informed that in short, we are out of luck and that we need to buy new X5s. I explained that makes very little sense for brand loyalty and reliability. I was then told again that BMW does not care and will not be fixing the situation. The same message was echoed in a response from Connected Drive.

They did recommended writing a letter to their customer relations legal team.

I am considering the letter myself and possibly having my attorney just toss one out there. Who knows, a few hundred to see what comes of shoving them around lol.

For those interested in calling, BMW Customer Relations at 1-800-831-1117. This information is likely already in this thread somewhere but figured id toss in what I could.

P.S. The representative denied any previous compensation or retro fits for the previous 2G sunsetting.... Very interesting lol

BMW is outright stating that they will not provide an upgrade path aside from purchasing a new vehicle.

I also spoke to BMW Customer Relations. Here are my notes:

- Services currently with an active subscription will not expire or be disconnected earlier (at least that's what I heard after asking twice)
- Services with an expiration date will NOT be renewable
- BMW has not issued any internal guidance about helping customers absorb the cost of any upgrades. This is still being evaluated.

In short - letters requesting some assistance will be helpful since the policy is still being developed.

Not much can be done until a formal policy is available for examination.
