Slight creak in rear hatch
I realize that this might be a known issue. What seems to be the lower plastic shroud in the rear hatch is creaking a tiny bit but enough for my OCD brain to notice it. Over bumps and even when stopping. I can replicate it with my hand. Anyone know about this issue and any way to tighten up the plastic pieces and/or hatch adjustments to eradicate it? Thanks

I've had my car back numerous times at the dealer to get the trunk latches readjusted, watched you tube videos, installed dynamat in suspect areas, put electrical tape around suspect latches based on what others say with no longer term resolution, and guess what.... after removing the cargo cover completely, the creeks completely went away.
Try this first, see what happens.

When I first got mine I had some plastic on plastic sounds form the hatch area. I was able to pinpoint it to the plastic cover over the bottom half of the clam shell. I could actually squeeze the top of it near the latch handle and get the plastics to rub together and recreate the sound. I took some self adhesive velcro (just the fuzzy half)...about 1 inch strips, and wedged it between the plastic on either side of the latch. Barey noticable and the sound is completely gone.
Not sure if yours is the same issue, but worth a shot. Feel free to PM me and I can send over a video I took. Last edited by jab23; 02-03-2021 at 08:40 AM.. |

I had the same problem. The piece that the latch goes into I wrapped it with duct tape. No more noise. Also when you lift the tailgate on the right and left side you will see where the tailgate closes into. I wrapped those two pieces in duct tape also. The two pieces I'm talking about actually can be pulled off revealing what looks like some sort of fuse. Before doing this I took out the cover but the noise was still there. Hope this helps.

So, my problem with creaking was from the bottom half of the calm shell. The plastic on the top portion was rubbing over bumps and uneven pavement. See video for sound (have to turn on) and picture for solution. One inch piece of self adhesive velcro (fuzzy half) wedged between the lip. Sound has been gone ever since. Others may have the latch issue, but I haven't had that problem. I also believe the bump stops are adjustable if the hatch itsef is flexing over uneven surfaces. Anyway, hope this helps.

We had a '16 F15 that developed this noise around 60k miles and my X5M has just started doing it at 47k. Sounds similar to the lower hatch but haven't investigated further as it has been stuck in the garage from all of the snow recently (TN). Good to know these noises are relatively common and not just my brain going crazy...

I'm going to the body shop on Monday. Will have them try to finagle some kind of shim with weatherstripping or something to silence this noise. Thanks again for the insight on this ridiculous phenomenon! |

Mine is driving me crazy. I haven’t tracked it down yet but it sounds like it’s coming from the two cubbies where the fuses are.

I had my dealer adjust the clamshell and procrastinated removing the cargo cover. In denial or whatever... And it was the damn cargo cover all along! |
