X5M Front bumper conversion
Hello everyone! Long time lurker here, just wanted to see about getting some help, and possibly helping others out with compiling an X5m (f85) front bumper conversion parts list! So far I have purchased the front bumper itself, as well as several other bits from Real OEM. The bumper is aftermarket, and I was able to get a great deal online. I currently have a 2017 M Sport. I’m hoping the conversion is pretty straightforward. I began by looking at an exploded diagram of the front end of the X5m and looking at what part numbers match what the x5 m sport. This helped me eliminate ordering parts that I already have on my vehicle. By doing this, it didn’t really seem to need many pets behind the bumper itself besides the foam insert and maybe a bracket or two. I’ll get the parts list up shortly. I wasn’t able to find a belly pan though, as I hear those are required for the conversion to be done properly.
Does anyone have any tips or advice on completing this project? I know there’s not a lot of info here on the forums, and I’d Love to help others looking to do the conversion! Thanks in advance! Last edited by Javila; 03-04-2021 at 02:28 PM.. |

A lot of information here, just search and it is not direct bolt on solution if you are going from F15 to F85 bumper.

Thanks for the replies, guys! I have seen those postings except for the F86 one! Very insightful. However, I’m sure there are some slight differences between the x5 and x6 conversions. Either way, I’m tackling the project and if anyone is interested, I’ll do my best to document it and put together any info someone might need.
Usually the original poster goes missing or doesn’t go over specifics - just that it’s a lot of work. I’m still waiting on bumper to ship from Texas (delayed ) and I just ordered several bits from the dealer that I’m also waiting on. I’ll try to get some pictures of the project car up tomorrow. |

Its really simple. Since you have the M Sport you don't need to "upgrade" you front wheel flares. You also wouldnt need the bracket that holds the flare. I doubt you will need to trim any of the ducting or shields.

Thank you for the info! I seem to be on the right track then as that's pretty much what I ordered.
Here is the list of parts (including bumper) that I had ordered: 51-11-8-066-732 M Bumper cover 51-11-8-056-302 Absorber 51-11-8-066-726 Tow Bracket Cover 51-11-8-056-289 Adapter 51-11-8-056-290 Adapter 51-11-8-066-729 Lmp Washer Cover 51-11-8-066-730 Lmp Washer Cover 51-11-8-056-341 Center Grille 51-11-8-056-342 Center Grille Holder 51-11-8-056-259 Lower Grille 51-11-8-056-261 Outer lower Grille left 51-11-8-056-262 Outer lower Grille right This all came to under 500$ (not including bumper) shipped. I already had purchased the slanted M grills from RGSPORT. If these are all the parts that I need, then all the bits and pieces necessary to install, seem to be the obvious parts necessary for it to be visually complete. I have updated my original post to include pictures of the project car |

So for behind the bumper, did you have to replace any of the air ducting for the intercooler/ radiator or did you just remove those and run without it?

It uses the original non-M duct. It was trimmed down because it stuck out too much and fit the M bumper almost perfectly, enough where I opted not to replace it with the proper M one.

Nice! That’s great to know, I didn’t order any of the ducts myself. I can’t wait to get to start pulling mine apart. NYBulldog , your bumper is aftermarket from CID, right? Any fitment issues, or build quality issues?
Also curious about your rear conversion, I’d love to do mine as well, but not sure Itd make all that big of an impact like a front bumper would. My rear diffuser is a maxton design. https://www.maxtondesign.co.uk/rear-diffuser-bmw-x5-f15-m50d |

Got the bumper painted as well as the reflectors and washer covers! Everything is assembled and ready to go! So far, the only parts behind the bumper that I have needed were the camera holder, and the brackets for the fender flares. As stated above, some of those holes for the brackets to snap in needed a little tiny bit of trimming. Paint came out great! All the OEM BMW grills and mesh fit like a glove.
Im hoping tomorrow I find some time to install. Tonight, I’ll be using epoxy to attach the washer covers (mine doesn’t have the actual headlight washers) and the painted reflectors. So far everything has been straightforward. Here are some pictures in the meantime... |

Was curious, any finished pictures of this project?
Were you missing or order too many additional parts?
