Is the X5M the most reliable M car?????
As the title says is it? I'm asking because I go threw almost every forum and I've been reading some horror stories... I mean shit that would make a grown man possibly shed a tear, but then I double back to our forum and the most we complain about is brake squeal lol.
Sad part is I wanted to pick up a M6GC but I went into the forum and right away 2-3 "my motor seized" threads popped up... so I'm just a bit lost because if we all have the same motor give or take a few differences why do I see more carnage in other forums vs this one? I know there's probably more guys that mod their vehicles with those platforms but I really want to know what you guys think. Btw if you have any horror stories please feel free to share I would like to know everything there is to know about this particular platform.

Feedback from the F10 M5 -S63Tu engine has been positive. Not sure why the M6 guys have had more horror stories. Probably has to do with mods and engine tunes causing some issues.
But I am happy that not so much issues with our F85/F86. |

It's all about context... forums can get VERY vocal by a small few. It's not always representative of every car out there.

The s63 is built to survive. Read this and check you tube for tear down video of a damaged s63 (improperly gapped spark plug took out a cylinder). If one starts modifying improperly all bets seem to be off IMO.
Things like different pistons, closed deck heads, stronger main bearing design, better oil cooling/spray go a long way to hep ensure longer engine life https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...them-the-same/ |

That is a great link. The engineering that goes into engines these days is amazing.
I particularly liked the oil pump piece. Reminds me of the side oiler big block 427 that Shelby used in its cars to ensure lubrication in the most demanding of times.

Here is the YouTube of a s63 tear down and complete rebuild. You can follow the segments. He also gives a great side by side of n/s 63 parts.
Makes one appreciate your mechanic more! Timing, proper torquing, shop organization, electrical connections, etc., etc. Have fun! And don't gap your own plugs!!!! Just buy OEM pre gapped. If you read about s63 fuel injector pressures, there is critical engineering in place to avoiding washing cylinder walls with fuel and removing engine oil!! |

I've had and F10 M5 and now have the F85 X5M - Both cars are incredibly well engineered.
The only issue I have had, and it appears to be a common one, is the bleed nipples on the Brake Calipers shearing or cracking... dissimilar metals is the issue. Turks.
