So AFE's response is ok on the face. However, it doesn't explain why some people are NOT getting the CEL. In my opinion, AFE's response suggests that EVERYONE should get the CEL as least for a period of time.

I might just put the stock air box back on, though I probably can't return mine as I bought it secondhand.

But there is another curve ball. I used to run the RK front Mount which uses a wet AFE filter and no issues

I have to mention that I have a full tune with bm3

Before my bm3 tune I was running race chip and Dinan intake. I was throwing CEL and couldn’t figure out why. Never check the codes as it went away

Think these intakes do provide so much more air that it causes issues

I remember Talking to msr about their f85 front Mount that was never released gaining 1-2 psi just from the intake and was causing a bunch of issues

Not sure guys but good luck

I do have BM3 stage 1 as well. Not sure if that matters.

Wow, the plot thickens! Fwiw, I've installed the bm3 stage 1 tune with the Dinan intake and no CEL. Good luck sorting this out guys.

I was running Racechip and Dinan intake without any issues. Switched to AFE got the CEL.
I removed the Racechip, cleared the CEL and after one day light came ON again.
So this is definitely AFE creating an issue...

I might just go back to the stock air box. Would be disappointing bc I do love hearing the turbos spool with the AFE unit.

Quick update:

3 days later and close to 80 miles no CEL. All looks good.
Before the light would come back on the next start after reset.
Will monitor and report in few days.

I am putting the stock air box back on. My shop said they tested both sides and one side was good but the other was letting some air through. They weren't surprised as one side fit well and the other seemed loose. This is pretty poor engineering/manufacturing on AFE's part. I wish I could get a refund but they don't seem to give two s**** about the issues I and others are having. Live and learn I guess.

If anybody wants to buy this off of me, I will give you a hell of a deal. I will probably just end up tossing it.

I did use this opportunity to get flashed to 93 octane tune so not a complete loss.

Wow sorry to hear of all the issues.

Looked like a dodged a bullet.

The costs here in the uk are £825 gbp so around $1072 dollars.

I am actually more disappointed now than initially. After driving a bit, I can definitely tell that the AFE unit was an improvement. Perhaps not in 0-60 times or 1/4 mile times but throttle felt more responsive if nothing else, especially at the low end.

Oh well.

Update:

Close to 260 miles today. Road trip....all good. No more engine light. Car pulls like a train.

Maybe dude from AFE was correct and it took some time for the electronics to adjust to a different air flow. I am not a professional so just my guess

I am keeping the AFE. Sound is addictive too

Will post if anything changes.

P.S It took my car a week of driving and 3 CEL reset to finally stop showing the check engine light. Today I looked at the codes and there were none so hopefully it will stay like that.

Spoke too soon....light is back again. Will check the codes later but I am sure it is the same.
Looks like my Dinan is coming back this weekend.

Next update will be AFE return process and how they will handle it.

How the F...company releases a product on the market and that product is a complete disaster? If they tested it they would see the same problem

It looks like they designed it around x6m but that shouldnt matter right? And they used the gray filters instead of the blue.. Ehloo said he has no issues with the dry filters... Does it make sense to swap to the dry version?

The intake does sound nice tho

Doesn't make make a difference and if I had one I would run mine exactly how they run theirs just to avoid issues but tbh it shouldn't matter what Filter is ran.

I had the same issue with x5m and returned the intake. I guess you cannot just add more and more air in. The MAF may be smart enough to say there is a leak because of extra amount of flow.

My shop said it wasn't additional air flow but that it failed a smoke test on one side indicating an improper seal. At least I think that's what they said
