That looks great! So are your rims also 10" wide front, and 11" rear? I would assume the width of the rims play into it.

I did look up my car, it did come factory with 275-40-20 front, and 315-35-20 rear. So that is actually the correct size for my year and model.

Not sure if this being a 2014 and a X6M makes any difference or not. It would not be the first time that a dealer did not know, or that the tires were replaced at some point.

So, more or less the 295-30-22 front and 335-25-22 rear is the best size?

Seems like a 305-30-22 would be a better rear size, but I doubt many tires around in that size that would match the front.
Again, where to start...
While the F series started in 2014, the F series X5M and X6M launched in 2015, not 2014
X5M and X6M did not come with run flats from the factory, they came with high performance summers
Dealer definitely did whatever they needed to say to sell a car

Are you sure you have an F86? Post a few pics on the forum.

If he has a 2014 and it came with 275/315s it is the E71. My E71s had the 275 front and 315 rears. They increased to the 285 front 325 rear in the F86.

I believe they are 10.5 front and 12 rear.

Thanks!

Yes, mine is for sure a E71. The F86 X6M came out in 2015. The factory fronts are 10" and the rears are 11.5" wide. I measured to be sure, but I found it right on many different sites just to be certain. I have no spare tire, or a place to put one, so it for sure came with run flats factory.

I think the 335 would be just too wide for my 11" wide rears. That is over 13" of tread, I'd rather keep that around 12" for my new rims.

That's what I was thinking that you had an E71. People can help with general tire questions but would be more useful in the E71 forum to know what people are running instead of the F series forums.

Winter Woes

Hi,
I know squat about wheels and tires and I've got the 21's on my F85. I put YOKOHAMA Bluearth Winters on last season (285/35R-21 and 325/30R-21) and after three months they started vibrating at speeds over 55mph.

I would appreciate any help determining what are my non-OEM winter setup options are.

And....I am afraid to ask but are there any all-season wheel/tire options?

Thanks!

Make sure they where road force balanced and try again.
Visual inspect the tire tread for unevenness, bubbling, or tread issues.

Plenty of non-OEM winter options. There are the Yoko Blue Earth that you have and Pirelli Scorpions tires that you can run on 21s. A lot of people go with 20s for winter which are 285/40 square set-up and several brand tires fit those, numerous rims are available for those 20s.

No all-season tire for the 21s or 20s in OEM recommended sizes. If you drop front and rears by -10 there are a few, but limited options; however you need to be careful where you live as you may not pass state inspection if you are out of OEM spec.

Thanks! Local dealer performed a road force balance and looked into the issue numerous times before saying it was an issue with the tires. No indication of what the issue is or which tire. I drove on them for 3 months before the vibration started. The tires are in my garage now so I can inspect each for unevenness, bubbling or tread issues. Thank you.
Any particular rim options for the 20s that you recommend ?

None in particular. I have OEM 611s winter set-up wrapped in the Pirelli Scorpions.

I'm not endorsing anyone, but there are a few for sale on the forum:

Just curious, has anyone installed all-season tires on the stock 21" 612M wheels?

Wife is getting a 2018 F15 x5M and I need some OEM all season recommendations. Not black. Bi-color preferable. Any recommendations?

F15 (as in X5 MSport) or F85 (as in X5M)? We are a picky lot here as there is no F15 X5M.
What size rims are on the car now?

BimmerTy is running Accelera Iota ST68 all season 285/3521 325/3021 oe spec on his 612s. A buddy of mine had the same tires put on his 612s earlier this year, sidewall thickness seems to be about the same with the MPSS but the MPSS has a bit more rim protection. They are no michelins but so far with daily driving they seem to be decent, had a few days of light snow and they ride fine but definitely wouldn't recommend driving with any more significant amount of snow. Be prepared for some road noise as these tires seem to be the noisiest compared to the MPSS and PZeros.

As far as I am aware there aren't any all season 21" tires available for F85/86 spec. Only a few options at all for summer or winter specific

Yup, the 21" Accelera all season's are wearing well- have been running them for almost a year now. They did great in light snow and gripped well when the temperature dropped under 40 degrees, which was my main concern of running summers. They're the only all season out there to fit X5/X5M spec. They are definitely noisier than MPSS's, which I ran on my Merc a few years ago, but not bad. I think they're a good buy for the money at half the price of MPSS's.

Has anyone had problems with 295-30-22 front and 335-25-22 rear? I have Velos rims and had to replace the previous Scorpion Zeros due to poor alignment rubbing the inner edges raw (new used car to me but previous owner had used that size tires for 15-25k miles). However, I replaced with Toyos in same size and soon after the car started pulling left/right under uphill acceleration
Now the car is stranded after dropping power completely (won't go over 50) but no check engine light

I'd really like to keep the Velos but do have the stock 21s if absolutely necessary. 285 front is the "proper" size and 295 is 1.3% taller but no one makes 285 + 335 combo, the Scorpions are sold out and I hate runflats anyways

Has anyone heard of these? I'm doing some research on a winter setup and if we have a warm winter I would prefer to use an all season than a dedicated winter setup

Can one increase the diameter equally?

For example;
Potentially running 275/40/21 and 315/35/21 = 643.4mm front x 643.65mm rear
From stock 285/35/21 and 325/30/21 = 633.15mm front x 630.9mm rear

Why are you looking to do that?
You should check on a tire calculator site to see the change in rolling diameter to see the percent change, if it's more than 1-2% difference it's not a good idea.
You would also need to check to see if that tire spec is recommend to fit on your rim width as well since you are going down in tire width.

Looking to put the winter tires on my 612 wheels. I found a good set of verdes with those specs, plus i'd like the taller side wall.
