Anyone had any experience of Gators? They don't look too obvious and I reckon that if they work as promised then it will be money well spent.
What are the gators?

Hey guys, kind of new here, been lurking on the forums and as my warranty nears 50k, these forums become more and more useful.

I've got a CPO '15 35d and love it, but am noticing that I'm experiencing some of the same issues you all are reporting on my 469's, including the wheel corrosion around the center caps, not major, but noticeable. I'm at 45k and went in for scheduled maintenance, told them about the corrosion and my SA said he didn't think it was under warranty, but would try his best to put in the claim. He told me today that BMWNA denied the claim and said it wasn't under warranty. I pressed him, and he said I should contact BMWNA to see if they nudge given the dealership gets paid for doing the work of replacing the rims. My wheels have the same issue some of you guys have posted about, and it looks like BMWNA replaced them under warranty. Any tips on how you went about the process? Would hate to hit 50k knowing these were covered under warranty and BMW denied the claim. Thanks in advance for any help.

Update: just spoke to BMWNA and they said they don't cover wheels/rims under the 4year/50k warranty. They have a separate warranty for tires/rims that you need to purchase. Is that the warranty the you folks have? If not, how were you able to get these replaced via the 4year/50k warranty?

Mine were refinished by a company that comes to my dealership. I know some were actually able to get them replaced but I just got refinishing. They look brand new though.
As far as how I got mine done, I asked my SA and he snapped a few pictures and sent them off. I would keep pressing them about it. Show them what others have had done, under WARRANTY. I didn't have any wheel/rim warranty on mine. Should be said that I'm in Canada.

thats BS, its cover under factory warranty.
Im trying to get my rims all 4 replace under warranty due to same issues.
The rep thinks your wheels are damage. You need to contact your service advisor, he/she will document take pics....etc.

I was able to get all four of my corroded 469s and centercaps replaced under warranty.
- Filed claim
- Denied by local dealership Service Dept/“BMWNA Field Agent”, reason stated was “outside influence”.
- I appealed and requested to be told what exactly was the “outside influence” that caused 3 of 4 wheels to corrode in same location/pattern.
- Service Manager contacted “BMWNA Field agent” requesting info, couldn’t provide it.
-“BMW Market Representative” visited dealership to view corrosion, overturned Foeld Agent’s denial
- My SA ordered four new 469s and center caps
- Swapped out olld corroded with brand new

Other than the extensive effort on my part to “fight” the denial, I’m happy with the outcome.

Regardless if you have damage on your wheels or not, they should still be covered. If the clear coat is corroding on parts of the rim that aren't affected by curb rash, they should 100% be covered.
My SA went as far as only taking close ups of the corrosion, and didn't mention anything about curb rash.(first owner hit a few spots)
Also mention to them that this a known issue with 469's. (Obviously, by this thread)
Keep pushing them and good luck! Hope they do the right thing for you.

How did you go about filing the claim? Thanks for all the info so far guys. Very helpful!

First I sent my SA a text message with pics, then an email with high-res pics, then she made me an appointment and I brought them in to start the process.

Thanks! My car is already at the dealership. I'll ask my SA about the claim process and ask for the manager. There is rum rash on some of the rims and I'm thinking that's why they are denying my request. That aside, almost all hub caps show signs of corrosion and there is some corrosion on the rim, near the hub cap, on at least one wheel. Rim rash is one thing but corrosion is another and I don't feel these wheels should be corroding for '15 car. My SA also said it looked like my rims might have been refinished before, before I purchased the car.

My front two wheels had curb rash and both had been repaired. That’s not a factor in center cap area corrosion.
* curb rash after repairs as well

I contacted my SA and asked to have a manager request that a bmwna tech take a look and explain to me how the corrosion is not the result of poor craftsmanship on a MY15 $75k msrp bmw. He's going relay the info to his manager and give me an update. Hoping this all works out. Will continue posting updates as I get them.

Stay persistent, I pushed back numerous times to my SA and Service Manager. It's an issue, they know it is, but they don't want to own it without a fight.
Good luck and stay the course.

Doesn't appear to be so. I'm in California, Bay Area.

Yes, definitely similar. Did your rims corrode again, after they replaced them? Or did you wind up selling them after they were replaced?

Never mind, just reread and it looks like you had two sets of the 469s

I don’t believe it’s regional. I purchased my X5 in Bitburg, Germany then later imported it to Texas.

Had two sets, sold both sets. They were replaced about 3 weeks ago so it’s to soon to have corrosion.

They are a plastic type band fitted around the wheel rim. Here is a link to their web page: https://www.alloygator.com.

I had black ones fitted and they are hardly noticeable unless pointed out to people. Took about an hour to fit.

I've got corroding or oxidation which is what it looks like to me occurring on all 4 rims. Out of factory warranty as of March. Never gonna get this fix from dealer that's for sure. If only this started back in the fall.

He'll im still waiting to hear back about my M illuminated side sills that they lost the magnets too 4 months ago and now my SA is ignoring my emails despite telling me she's gonna talk to the SM blah blah. They think I'll just go away but I'm just being patient. Gotta love dealers.
