Hmm cuz he swore up and down that I can ask any certified alignment shop...even the dealer that the bumper is required to do an alignment.

I am not a pro, but honestly from my car knowledge I can't see why would bumper matter for the alignment. Not quite following the logic.

So drove it home Friday and drove straight to the dealer. Worst 120mile drive of my life. And I'll admit straight up that it wasn't the smartest thing but I among many factors I needed to get home and didn't want to sit in the middle of no where waiting hours for a tow truck and pray that he would let ride with him the 100 mile rest of the way home.
1) Almost immediately I could feel a large issue in braking. But I convinced myself that it was just because I have been in 2 different cars for the last 3 weeks and maybe my brakes just needed replacing anyway. Turns out nope....tech immediately reinforced my initial thoughts when I got to the dealer as it was the first thing he said when he put it in gear. FML. Air in the lines he thought. 2) at slow speeds I could hear a line grind when turning hard in either direction. Sounded like plastic rubbing on the tire. Got out and checked but didn't see anything so ignored it and continued the drive. Not much longer the noise got worse and worse and now was making it regardless of the wheel angle and go worse the closer to centerline oddly enough which made me real uncomfortable. After I pulled over about 30 miles into the drive I felt like it sounded like a wheel bearing issue. And that I could keep driving on it. I did not see anything rubbing under the car or regarding any of the new suspension components. Turns out the wheel bearing disintegrated in the hub and only thing holding the wheel on was the nut that loves to rust...FML. 3) turning the car to the left...no issues. Turning to the right...Major issues. I found that at speed (~45mph and above) when turning to the right, well, things got interesting. After about 10deg of deflection the car jerked to the right. Now this would be a problem on the track but on a hwy (almost no cars on it) I was able to at least prepare for it and with two hands control it enough to remain in the lane. Looks like I'm getting a new steering rack. And again. FML. 4) then I get home after my wife picked me up from the dealer to find my 150lb Bull Mastiffs toe nail sticking straight up and blood all over my floors (thank God we put in wood when we bought it). How....just how even does one do this....Hello $300 emergency vet bill. FML. 5a) then while at the vet Enterprise calls me and tells me there is quite a number of dents and scrapes on my rental car that I left with the body shop back in MD that I am responsible for...when it rains it pours. FML 5b) now I can report that as of this afternoon I was able to get a hold of the tiny shop I rented the car from and reminded him that I pointed out all of the damage before I left with the car and he said "oh ya your good I know about all that"....apparently the other enterprise that picked up my car from the body shop was not aware of this information and it was a "miscommunication" between the two rental shops....ya call it what you want as long as I'm not paying for anything else I'm good... Now I just hope they total it lol ($11k now and I'm guessing another $5-7k for the wheel bearing and steering rack and associated alignments and labor etc) and I can rent a car for a couple weeks before deployment. Then save up and come back next summer ready for the next chapter of 4 wheel adventures!

Wow man, this is rough day you got. Why did you pick up the car anyways? Get a rental and drive around until insurance does the appraisal and give you verdict on the car. For know, pour yourself a glass of scotch, bourbon or whatever you prefer, take a deep breath and relax. Whatever happened happened.

Just got word. Another $10,200 in repairs. Can't total it out cuz the first wave of repairs has already been completed and paid. Yay me. Oh and the kicker. Car won't be done until after I deploy lol. FML. And they won't give me a loaner cuz it's "insurance" work. So here comes a $800 rental bill.

Hey I thought I'd chime in! Hey maverick! Sorry this happened to you and happy your safe and sound!
When they totaled my 2012 x5 with 156k miles on the clock my insurance paid out $13,900. And that was a few months ago. Was able to take my car and take all the mods off of it as well so another 6k went to the bottom line. For Some reason the insurance numbers for the X5's are higher than market value. My x5 was worth 4500 tops for trade in and maybe 8k resale. When they offered what they offered for my 35i all depression left and I was happy for the change. Made my 34k dollar 40e purchase only cost $14k So not a bad upgrade. Mainly it's hard to total some cars nowadays because of the high residual value insurance companies give these trucks...... |

Got her back. Drives like new and boy did I miss driving her. So much power. God almighty.
But I will say I've only confirmed that the original body shop did the worst paint job known to man. So much orange peel down around the bmw roundel on the hood. Omg it's bad. Also some pit marks from where the paint like didn't stick and so it left like a pin head size hole if that makes sense. And some other issues just ugh. But my refinished rims are gorgeous. Haha

Orange peel can be taken care of. The other thing you describe are called "fish eyes" and that's is when the surface is contaminated in some fashion before paint is applied.

Oh ya forgot to mention when installing my front reflectors the passenger one isn't even stuck in properly and I can push it in with my finger. Just begging for water to enter and eventually compromise the rest of the tape holding it in. And they couldn't find the M50d bumper trim pieces Ben sells (which I told them not to ask the dealer for them because they wouldn't find it for my car, shocker they didn't listen). So they just put on the one that wasn't damaged and left the passenger side empty. SMH. Just insane. Did I mention they didn't paint part of the bottom edge of the front lip of the hood. It was like bare grey primer. So he put touch up on it. And when I found bubbles in the paint. He wet sanded that spot. So now I have these glorious scratches in about a 1 foot circle where the bubbles used to be.
