I was thinking about a similar scenario.

Well, a bad cluster would be bad in some way, no?

That would be some tv soap drama shit right there.

Or OP was probably looking at trip mileage with 30k miles and not the actual mileage of the car.

Following this, just to see an outcome. I have never heard of anything close to this

When swapping clusters, the new cluster has to be virginized or have LESS milage than the old one. If the milage is more on the new one, the swap fails...

I was called in today from service to take in my second key.

I don't know what the outcome is going to be, but I will not buy a BMW ever again. It's a shame because my goal was always to own an X5. I started with 2004 X3, 2009 128i, 2011 335i, 2012 X3, 2016 X5. The sad part of it I was driving the highway and I was telling myself Wow this is the first BMW that has never given me an issue. Right!

I'm a very frustrated BMW customer.

And guys again this car has always been taken for maintenances to a BMW service center.

And I have never done anything to this vehicle.

Wow - OP, this is one crazy ride you’re on; almost like an episode out of the “Twilight Zone”. Hope everything turns out okay. Good luck, and please keep us updated.

Suggestion incoming... If you truly made no mods/changes and this randomly happened, you should at the very least "consult" with an attorney and share what's happening to the forum. We can only speculate and there is so much all of us still don't know. I hope you get it figured out, good luck.

Did the SA or Service Director mention opening a PuMA case for this issue?
If not, you might want to discuss that option with them. No way I’d let this die-out at their level.
Have you contacted BMWNA regarding the experience with the other dealership’s Service Department?
Best of luck, I’d be livid as well.

OP mentioned working with a case manager so I would think one has been open. Also, he mentioned case being escalated to a outside engineer. I don't recall seeing definitively what the findings were that were reported by the 1st dealership other than it being tampered with and to come pick up your car? You should be able to obtain that report.

OP I'm rooting for you man but I'm not hopeful. These boards and computers have like something around a less than 5% failure rate and that's being conservative. Probably less than 1%. Something happened here and the odometer just didn't goof to 100K miles. I hope I'm wrong but as others have mentioned..if there's truly no gameplay on your behalf you need an attorney. Like two weeks ago.

I wasn’t sure if he meant a person inside the service dept or a real case manager/engineer. I know SA’s can throw around titles that aren’t really what they are. If there is a PuMA case, request the findings and seek legal advice/assistance ASAP.
This is truly unbelievable.

I'd say someone might have tried playing with the instrument cluster without the OP's knowledge and Bam, it screwed up the cluster...

It is FL, so anything is possible and btw, where's the OP and what's the final verdict?

No way your car can go from 39k to 123348 in two month. I'm sure the dealer has your mileage Info recorded. Make a case with bmw as there is something faulty with your odometer system.

Totally agree not very possible, 2 months = roughly 60 days and to put almost 85k miles would be about 1,400 miles a day!! No way this should even be a issue, not cool what there doing to the OP.

As well. What the latest? We tried giving as much advise as we could think of.
Did you get any of your prior repair dates with odometer on them then challenges BMW ?

What's the updates ?

My thought is someone at BMW/dealership jacked something up big time and as part of a settlement with the OP he had to sign an NDA....hence radio silence.

Lol I wouldn't sign a fucking NDA. It's an cluster not a brand new car. If the dealer owned up they wouldn't do it outright. They would just say oh well we'll do it out of good faith or some BS.

Didn't mean for that to seem aggressive toward anyone but shady BMW dealers.

This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen this happen on here. I hope he replies and at least acknowledges it’s resolved one way or another.

That's all we hope for. Of course if we could get more insight as of where did it happened? How did it happened? How it got resolved? That would help the community.

Wait and see !
