My question was directed to rye_a, who is not happy with his run flats, and whose sig says he drives an X5M. The implication is that his X5M shipped with run flats (or he had them installed, which seems unlikely since he hates them). Hence my curiosity as to whether the factory had shipped X5M's with both types in the past. |

Mine has the Pzero Run-flats factory installed, and has the can of BMW tyre sealant in the rear instead of jack/tools.
Went to the dealer to get one replaced for a nail, the service department replaced both tyres in the rear as the tread depth would be different and not recommend. Tyre hazard warranty paid off already. |

Does anyone know if the Continental SportContact 6 is suitable as I also have issues with the P-Zero's wearing far too quickly! They seem to get slippy very quickly even with tread on them...

Bought these when I replaced the P-Zero's. Fit perfectly and a lot quieter with (to me) the same traction qualities as the Pirelli's.

I also have nothing good to say about the P-zeros. I'm at 13k miles on my '17 F85 and these are the worst tires I ever had.
Years ago, I had the exact same tires on my '06 Volvo S60 R. The P-Zero's were hated on the Volvo forum too. Does anyone have any info why these are the only options that are the exact size match for the 20" wheels? Wish I knew this when I ordered. This almost seems criminal between BMW and Pirelli. Worst tires possible and also the most expensive. I'm leasing my F85 and it sounds like the Pirelli's will need to be on the car when I turn the car back in. We all know these cars aren't cheap but I struggle with spending $400 and $500 for tires that can barely last 10k miles.

I get it, a whole bunch of you don't like the OEM PZeros. But so far, the only consistent reason provided appears to be a high wear rate and cost. There's a lot of hyperbole about worst tires ever etc. etc. but all the posts are short on any other specific information. Absolutely they are expensive. As for wear rate, I have never owned an X5 which did not devour tires at a rapid rate, OEM or non OEM. My original '08 came with runflats, but when I replaced them with 'regular' tires the wear was not much better. As I posted earlier in this thread, I find the grip/handling, ride and noise levels of the OEM PZeros just fine, certainly nowhere near the worst tire I have ever tried. |

Admittedly, I was charged the other day. I ended up going w/ the Continental DWS 06's.

Just bought a pair of Continental 285/40/20 Sport Contact 6 for the fronts to replace the Pirelli's. One of the fronts was at 4mm with a nail and the other at 3mm. Rears are 5mm and the car has only done 11,300 miles since new. Wear rate is terrible on the fronts and reasonable on the rears. Tramlining was also terrible with these tyres. Hopefully the conti's should perform better but a bit worried about wear rate given reviews, but if similar to the Pirelli's then can't complain.
