nice, seems like the X5's cycles tend to fall nicely into idrive updates. This isn't the first time.
I can't wait for this to trickle down to the other models within the next year.

don't kid yourself. You didn't buy a cellphone, you bought a car. Every mile you drive and every bump you have on the car has a larger impact on depreciation.

But B&O is way better than the B&W system. It may just be the new 7, but the B&W system in there is horrible. It may be "cleaner" but it's not as loud and has no bass. I would stick with the B&O system.

Already confirmed that the rest of the BMW range is getting this upgrade minus the touchscreen (which is reserved for the 5er up)

I sure hope the i drive knobs remains. Touch screens in cars suck. And the fingerprints, ugh! They are hard to use and distracting. I dealt with this in my ATS with CUE.

for me, touch screen is harder to manipulate when driving, it distracts you more when touching the iDrive screen, the use of the knob is more natural IMO, maybe touch screen + knob will be a good combo?

They all look terrible after common command areas get worn and dirty...

Why is everyone freaking out about BMW putting a touchscreen? The iDrive knob isn't going anywhere. BMW is very keen on keeping the iDrive knob as the primary navigation controller and has said this publicly IIRC an article posted here a while back. It's good to have options.

I just delivered a MY17 X3 it had iDrive 5.0 but no touch screen. It's good to see the 5.0 making its rounds to the different models.

Does it bother you that your F87 has the old idrive? How does the 5.0 compare to your car's idrive? I have a 16' F87 on order, it hasnt even entered production yet and Im bothered by this news. Even thinking of canceling my order, and getting a 17' allocation. Driver37

If its a lease don't sweat it. If you are buying it and you can wait then go for the 17. Keep in mind that production starts in August so even if you are the first batch of cars were talking about close to September delivery. Basically end of the summer.

Interesting as BMW UK's twitter account confirmed to someone a couple of days ago that "BMW had no plans for Apple Carplay support in our cars" in response to a query about a July build F30...
Could have been fibbing. Here's hoping my delayed due to Navigation parts supply/possible changeover of parts M235i will be on iDrive 5.0.

I'm happy to have the non-Touchscreen Edition!!!
Even if the knob remain, I don't like when passenger starts to "Play" with Touchscreen. I have tested many Touchscreen and never found one "easy to use" or very responsive... So I prefer the "old School" style... |
