Pedestrian warning fail = sore neck
Driving down a road I drive down every weekend a couple of times at 30 MPH. Out of no where my 2018 decides to hit the brakes and I see the picture of a person on the console. Minor problem, there was no person, car, bird, etc.
Breaks hit hard and my wife and I got a nice whiplash in our necks. Bad sensor? Why would they design something like this? |

Unfortunately the more tech our vehicles get, the more chances of them failing/acting up. Definitely take it to your dealership and have them check the vehicle over.

Had this happen in my Audi A7, I almost turned off the active brake assist but in the end it saved me on one occasion so I left it. The time it acted up out of nowhere my wife was there and saw that I did nothing and there was ZERO in our path...scared the crap out of us and thankfully there was nobody behind us either.

The system isn't perfect. Mine has slammed on the brakes a few times not far from my house where the road curves right, but the left lane is always backed up. The approach is 50 mph, so the X5 always thinks I'm about to rear end these vehicles.

After a while you will realize this happens on circular turns in dim lighting. |

So, if one set the collision detection to late, you know you are a risk taker !!! |

It's also good no one was following you behind - this is when I usually look into rear view mirror anticipating some daydreamer to happily plow into my rear bumper. It's good that nothing like that happened.
Remember Tesla killing several owners? The tech is really not ready yet IMHO. |

Sorry. One time in my '17 F15. Scared the hell out of me. Seatbelt locked of course, everything on my back seat slammed down and then fell on the floor, and I thought my neck snapped. Thanks for the wake up call BMW :-O

I’ve called my dealer to get it looked at. My wife wants no part of riding in it now. |

My previous car had night vision with pedestrian detection and eventually I ended up coding it out because of the false positives. Also check idrive for setting that disables pedestrian detection temporarily.

I just blew the dust off my manual, I’m going to clean the windshield and make sure a bug or bird didn’t make a mess in front of the camera. |
