Wobble/Vibration ~40MPH

Looking to understand if anyone else has had this problem and if so what was the fix?

Part of me feels like bad balance job on recently installed rear tires.

Really shows up the most when decelerating without any braking and as soon as it hits 40MPH there is a vibration down to about 30MPH. Has slowly been getting worse since purchasing the vehicle. Again, they installed 2 new rears when I purchased. I've put about 1,000 miles on the vehicle.

Going to try and get a couple more miles on it so I can get an oil change done and have it checked out then.

Did it vibrate before the new tires ? If not, that's it.

That sounds a lot like 1 or more of your tires might be out of balance. A lot of shops do lazy work and won’t take the time to clean and prep the area they are sticking the weights on. Which results in the weights coming off.
I would suggest having all 4 tires rebalanced.

Hard to know. Didn?t drive it before with the old tires. New tires were put on before test driving.

Nope, vibration only happens right below 40 on deceleration and mostly down to 30 but sometimes down into the 20's. Can feel it slightly on acceleration but not as bad.

I agree that it seems to be tougher and tougher to find someone who can do a quality tire balance job especially on these super wide tires.

Wanted to verify my gut that its a balance problem before taking it into the dealer for an oil change and possibly the axle/bearing noise issue.

Do you feel the vibration while driving at 30mph? Or just on deceleration. Reason I asked, what you are describing is a driveshaft out of balance. Check your balance on all 4 tires and if it persist, after knowing that all the wheels and tires are in good condition, I would take a look at the driveshaft.

Just to post an update, vehicle has been in the shop since Friday. Top tech at the dealership is supposedly working on it and sending data back and forth with BMW to find a fix. Will post the conclusion once the vehicle is back home.

Vibration at certain speeds is almost always balance.

My F10 would vibrate between 85-90MPH but nothing before or after and it was all Balance.

Ditto. Had my F10 M5 Road force balanced and all the vibrations went away.

So, got the vehicle back yesterday but it will be short lived. They replaced the front hubs and while the vibration is better (not sure if they re-balanced tires or not) it has not totally gone away. I would say it is less violent but more constant now if that makes any sense.

They have ordered a new transfer case from Germany that should be here in 10 days and I'll take it back to see if that is the fix.

Keep you guys posted once it gets here and installed.

Hate to hear that it’s going to be that complicated. Once it’s fixed, your gtg.
