Hey All,
What are folks doing for a remote start solution on their X5?

Thanks!

BMW does not recommend idling with cold engine temps as the oil is not at its optimal operating temps. Hence it's better to start driving right away.

Warm up or cool down the vehicle either using remote app or setting take-off time in idrive.

I assume he's talking about the ability to turn on the vent fan through the BMW Connected app. I use it regularly. In the summer, it means the inside of your car is only 120* instead of 130*. Better than nothing. In the winter it only helps if there is any residual heat left in the heater core, which means it's only going to help if the vehicle has been running recently, like within an hour.

Estimate from my dealership was the same as the estimate reported, $875... we'll see!

I love this feature in my Jeep GC. I use it in extremely cold and hot temperatures. it's a great option. I'll see if the dealerships in Canada offer it.

This is an interesting step forward. I would love the ability to do this from the BMW Connected App and maybe this is a step in that direction. I can see how this might be useful, depending on your physical situation. I park outside at work, in a secure, gated area with a security guard, so I would love the ability to start it from the Connected App, both on a hot summer day or a cold winter day. But I am far enough away that the remote fob does me very little good. And with the short range of these fobs, I can't "remotely" start it until I am about 30 feet away... So I can start it about 5 seconds before I would have been there anyway. At home, it's always in the garage. So it's not really much use to me. The only way it will be much use is if you park right outside your place of work or right outside your house or apartment, within 30 or 40 feet. Having said all that, I'm tempted to do it anyway, just 'cause.

@Taran.J Correct.
For that price it should be a no brainer for anybody in cold climates or without a garage for a factory installed part.

Isn't idling a car bad for the engine? In extremely cold weather (say 0f or -20c) aren't you suppose to start up the car let the oil works its way through the system and then drive off. It only takes about 5m for the car to warm up.

Or you can park in a heated garage.
