P.S. Yeah, I went with same pads due to budget constraints, I did perform pad bedding procedure, so I did all i can do in this situation. I know it's not ideal. Sensors are just a dumb wire that triggers electric contact when pads touch wire (it's not a real high tech led sensor or something like that) - they are good unless damaged or cut (there's only 1 sensor per axle). Mine were good, so I still have 1 extra laying around the one that came with calipers. IMHO this mod makes sense if you are just doing front calipers (and only paint match rears for looks), if you go for all 4 - cost adds up and you are right it makes not much sense to not go for MPBK. If I had money I would have bought MPBK no questions asked Last edited by DuSh; 02-21-2018 at 12:40 PM.. |

Have you noticed any brake squeal with the drilled rotors? That is a huge complaint on the F85 forum. Not sure if it was a problem on the previous gen X5M where your parts came from.

Haha, I did get some squeal, but only after washing car. I wonder if it's going to stay like that? I've read on M4 forum that they have squeal too with bbk - could it be inherent feature with high performance brakes?

well , first because when you are buying used calipers you dont know what pads are coming with . It may be an aftermarket once or it might be a poor quality pad too. let say they are carbon dustless or race performance... The brake pads sometimes as you mention "Pads and rotors don't wear at the same rate and you may need to replace one ahead of the other " may start wearing too fast the rotor and may warped the rotor and will start having slight vibration on steering wheel when applying the brakes. Also may start squeaking... thats why the softer pads are a bit better but they wear out too fast and when they reach higher temperature they are just useless |

Fair enough. Thought maybe you got swindled by a BMW service department in to unnecessarily swapping out pads when new rotors were all that was needed.

i will be honest with you ... i had e60 550i about 4 years ago. i went with carbotech pads and z1 motorsport rotors .. the reviews were so good ,but after i replace them and drove first 1000 miles more carefully and trying not to use the brakes much harder at the end i was not happy with them at all ... I have always says my self ... " the cheaper is always more expensive at the end " ... But that is me

Hey pits200, mine was done by indy shop, so I don't know it exactly, but from previous threads this is what is required if you are doing it yourself:
For those interested in coding your F15 for larger brakes...here is the instructions I followed. Huge thanks to Shawnsheridan for figuring out the code for the F15 being SBRE. For the F30 its SPBR. This is how you code for Big brake kits for the car. This is REQUIRED or you will have mushy brakes after installing the brakes. Got this from another thread.... => Connect => Expert Mode => Coding => Read FA => Save FA => Editors and viewers => FA-editor => Go to HO-Wort and right click on "Edit," then type SBRE under the HO-Wort file => Select the FA, "Calculate FA" to verify that no errors are found after adding the SBRE. => Write (write) FA to your car. No confirmation window will appear after saving the FA to the car => Expert Mode => Coding => Read (read) the FA. You are able to see SBRE be added to the HO-Wort folder on your car. => Read SVT, and locate the "DSC" (File Folder SVT / ECU / DSC), then right-click the "DSC" folder and select "Code". Consolidation should start immediately. => Allow the coding is over, and repeat step 1 to save a copy of the new FA. => Disconnect the car's computer. The M-Performance brake is now activated and enjoy the authentic experience of M Performance brake. Here's the link to original post by Alan: http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...1178827&page=2 |

In sum, it looks great - I often look at it and think wow - they look good that's biggest success! Had couple guys secretly walk up to my x5 from other side - when they thought I can't see them and they were looking at them lol
Performance wise in normal driving it feels a bit easier to stop now then with 50i stock brakes - but keep in mind 50i brakes are very good to begin with (they are 2 piston design in the front), so any improvement on top of them is an accomplishment imho. Also, in several instances when I pushed the car hard - difference was more obvious. I might try different pads - for now I have used stock oem ones that came with calipers. Only one negative - now my brakes squeal at low speeds - like when in stop n go traffic going very slow and stopping. Haven't looked into solution yet, but F85 folks complain of that too, as well as Porsche Cayenne folks lol - so I think that is something to do with bbk - either drilled rotors or pad material, not sure yet, but that squeal comes with the package - authentic experience Last edited by DuSh; 02-28-2018 at 09:35 PM.. |
