Finally got mine installed today since it was cool out. Took about 3 hours because I was stubborn, but once I used the dremel, it went a lot easier. Only issue seems to be that, while I managed not to break any other clips, I broke all 4 off of the original trim. I'm not sure how it happened, but I tried to use a magnetic retrieval tool to no avail finding them. I'm hoping I'm not going to have rattles, but I have a bad feeling about it. I'm not sure how to go about finding them at this point.

Sorry for dragging up an old posting, but these look fantastic!
MarkG_M3CP - did you manage to source these in EU?
I am in the UK and keen to track down a reputable/cost effective souce for these..

I just received the knee bolsters from r33_RGSport yesterday and did the installation last night. Total time was about an hour. Following the Diy step by step guide and taking iconoclast and Maverik259 advices using a long flat head screwdriver to lightly tap the metal clips up and over did the trick. During the removal I also lost one metal clip which fell into the center console but I used a magnetic pen to retrieve it. Using some common sense the overall install was a breeze.

Anytime. That's why I hit you up before I am out of this set.
As much as it is a great upgrade, BMW literally just ruin it by increasing the price 40% and the wait time of 4-6 months.

I was debating to make them myself, but with the way it moves, it doesn't make sense to me.

Gotta be a decent profit margin for ya with the oem being over priced as much as they are, no? Bulk orders? Could even make them without the silly silver bottom trim pieces the oem come with that I personally dislike!

I wish that was the case.
BMW doesn't protect their selling price.
So for anyone who work at dealership can and may sell parts at loss or cost just to make their sales quota and still get paid.

Must be a good day for this project since, same as Kzang, I took on it this afternoon. Big thanks to r33_RGSport for supplying these in June (great customer service btw, Ben kept me updated about delivery time since these were not in stock when I placed my order) and for the excellent DYI guide. Without it, I would not even consider this mod. It looks great. I considered trim swap to CF, but the cost of it is still way too high. This retrofit would have to be done along with it anyway. For now this will be more than enough. It is great upgrade to the interior.

Few notes to you DYI guide: The whole plate with USB/AUX/cigarette lighter plug slides through, so I did not have to unplug these to lift the storage up. What I did not realize is that 2018 has wireless charging on the side of the compartment, so the plug connected to it needs to be undone too to put the compartment fully away. I did not attempt it and was moving the storage compartment from side to side to be out of my way.

I am not sure what is the trick with the trim clips. How you can remove the panels without the clips dropping in. I should google it, I guess. There are 4 clips on the trim around the shifter and iDrive knob, and additional 3 on the top rear cover trim. 5 of 7 clips where undone and four dropped into the holes. I was able to retrieve 3 of them with the magnetic pen, but one on the top rear cover was lost above the rear AC panel. Keeping fingers crossed it will not rattle. Local dealer wants $5 (Canadian ) for each of these.

I had a fellow member (Ramsal ) to help me with the install and for the passenger side it was definitely plus to have extra set of hands and eyes available. We adjusted the mounting bracket as per the pictures posted by ikheetleon, and it worked perfectly. Thanks a lot for that post.

Overall great modification, too bad the parts are getting very expensive as per Ben’s posts. As others mentioned, M Sport X5 should come like this. I would pay for this as an option, if available in the order guide for X5.

Had some fin while the kids were napping this afternoon -

DYI was super easy to follow - Only piece I would recommend is if you have the phone cradle still installed like I did, you must remove another 4 screws and unplug the wires for the cradle but apart from that, took about 90 mins as I was vacuuming under the pieces.

Looks awesome!

Looks good, and I love the ceramic controls. I miss those. Congrats!

I took the opportunity to remove and install the cradle-delete mod from r33_RGSport while doing this mod.

Thanks. I'm actually had the iDrive controller replaced under warranty 3 weeks ago due to it sticking when turning clockwise.....saw a post that showed its common with the ceramic controls.

I actually unplugged everything for the cradle and I'm going to order the delete plate tomorrow. Can't wait to remove that piece all together

I read that too, I’m fortunate that I never had any issues with mine. It was actually very smooth feeling, the non-ceramic version is not as smooth, it clicks when turning.
As to the phone cradle, what a waste of space. I actually used it in my F16, but upgraded phones and never purchased the new module. It is a hassle anyways and takes up over half of the space. You’ll be glad it’s gone and never look back.

That carbon looks amazing. I can't justify spending the money right now, but it looks good especially against the leather.
