Hey 1MOREMOD - ok, lets think through this in a linear fashion....
2 different people serve as POTUS. 1st person has the first 4 years, then the 2nd person takes the next four years. It does not matter that they repeat this pattern, or that the 2nd person could hold the office for 8 years... The math is simple - could be 1 year between POTUS at the end of the term (like we have now), or the current POTUS term where he is serving 2 consecutive 4 year terms, hence the 8 years.

1MOREMOD - it's only the term from one POTUS to the next POTUS. The max is 8 years, but can be a little as one.
If you go 16, that brings a third variable into the equation...

George W. Bush 43rd president 2001 - 2009 1993 - 2009 = 16 years with 2 presidents in office. Don't put me on the list....

Listen - shoei didn't say the TOTAL time during their term(s) in office, ONLY that a couple presidents separated us in age.
I am simply illustrating that statement could be quantified as a little as one year or a many as 8 years in the event a sitting president won re-election. It's simply the difference in time between 2 sitting presidents
