Mine wasn't droning from the get go. IDH why; maybe I am lucky that the X-pipe or the piping I used is creating a different frequency.

Some members here used ultra quiet ones in the back, some drive in S do keep the RPM range higher than the dreaded 1500-2000RPM.

One of my friend's F10 550 was droning similarly as he was always driving with the highest gear possible at the lowest RPM possible and he was not using Sport mode.

Check your driving style. If it is similar to what I described, you'll probably get a slight drone.

Yes, and yes. The 1792's were too loud. It wouldn't have been too loud for a sports car that you drove for a few hours on weekends, but it was out-of-character for a German luxury SUV, especially given that it's my daily driver. I have no drone whatsoever.

Totally agree regarding gear choice and driving style. My setup has a really beefy and rich sound from 2000 - 4000 RPMs, and that's where I like to drive it so I'm very happy with it.

Regarding cutting out the OE resonators just back of the downpipes, I'll be interested to hear how that affects the sound. Given that the right and left ones are different, you get a slightly different sound from each side and I suspect that this adds some complexity and depth to the overall sound. I wonder if you'll lose that complexity if you cut them out. I'm a musician and an audiophile, so timbre and complexity are important and noticeable to me. Keep us posted.

A member did that here while installing catless DPs, and there was no noticeable difference at the back, but the DPs extra volume was overpowering the whole system. I agree, there should be a slight difference in tone on the left and right. But I don't know if that would be detectable while driving with windows up. My current setup is nice when windows down or at WOT in a tunnel, but I got used the sound level, therefore I am looking to cut the front resonators.

Yup, that's exactly what I would have gone for if I could - the price of getting those in Australia is nuts though so I've opted for a more generic setup. Once I get it installed I'll let everyone know how it goes (probably about 3-4 weeks time from now though). Below are the resonators I bought!

has anyone done the x-pipe and muffler delete AND installed catless downpipes? Wondering if I should just do the DPs with X-pipe and leave the exhaust stock for now and then cut them later if wanted.

I've purchased DPs but then sat in a friend's car, who installed DPs and due to the smell I decided not to install them. A member here (FenixMike) installed DP plus the exhaust delete. Check it out here: https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1593059

I don't have any issues with deleting the muffler and adding an Xpipe. Cost $550 at a muffler shop in NW Houston. Below is a cold start and the other is a drive by.

That's a lot cheaper than I can find in the Illinois area. Thanks for the videos

No hot dog resonators huh! You're a brave brave man.

Have you got any cabin drone?

In comfort and eco mode there isn't any drone. Maybe a slight drone at 1200-1400 rpm. In Sport and Sport + there's a slight drone, but it's not bothersome at all. It sounds amazing and everyone that hears it loves it.

It wasn't too expensive to do since the shop cut the muffler off and then welded new pipes to connect to the existing tail pipes. Plus they added the X-pipe, which I've heard on the forums reduces drone.

Never seen a muffler delete but I have a friend who zip tied the butterfly valves open on his 50i. A bit louder and much more crackling.

Check the inside of that x-pipe, how the fabrication is done.
If inside is like the one I bought, it is very restrictive. (hopefully yours is not)
Looked to me as if in a compromise to make production easier, the 4 tubes going into the X, are crimped at the end, inside the X.

Unless they have improved on it, mine had openings into the x, that were crimped down to about 1.25" in diameter, if I remember correctly.
Thus creating a way less smooth flow into and out of the X, and vortices possibly worsening the flow inside the X too. Since we have turbo charged engines, I'm guessing it affects us less than a NA car. But still not a good design.

Now, I'm not trying to discourage you from using it, many people have used them with no complaints. I just didn't want to install something like that without fixing it first, so mine is still on a shelf in my garage. (or for sale to anyone interested)

That's the sound 50i should have had from the factory imho. Hell, that sound is even good for X5M

I'm honestly liking that sound more than some expensive $4-7k aftermarket exhausts.

Doing mine soon when my tips come in. Mine won't pass emissions bc I have catless DPs installed but if you leave that on then there won't be any issues. Well I say that depending on what county you live in and whether they do the sniff test

Took the plunge yesterday on my 50i XLine. Ended up keeping the stock tips as I didn't think quads would look right with the XLine styling. Loving the sound so far with just the muffler delete and Xpipe. Little bit of drone right around 1000rpm under load but I don't spend much time there anyways. Even got the girlfriend stamp of approval.
