Silver part off the air vent missing

Hey guys and gals. Just wondering if any of you experienced the little silver tab off the ac vents coming off. Looked online for a replacement but only could find one for E70 and not F85. They look the same. Anyone know if they are a match?

Mine have fallen off in the past too. Especially after a car wash and wiping down the dashboard with a microfiber cloth. They just slide onto the vents. Not sure about fit.

Yep. This happened to me when I owned a regular X6 a few years back. I just picked a replacement from the parts department and pushed it back into the slot. I remember it being fairly cheap and this is not an F85/86 specific part so you escape the M premium for the replacement part.

My local dealer told me I'd have to buy the whole vent. I'll call again on Monday.

Any luck on finding a replacement for the silver tab? Mine just popped off and i can't find any replacements that don't involve buying a whole air vent

This just happened to me as well. I ordered these. They came in last night.

At first glance they look the same. My plan is to see if I can just remove the silver piece and replace that one that came off. If that fails then I will see what needs to be done to replace the whole tab.

Also, dealer will tell you that you have to replace the whole vent. They do not sell the tab separate. I was quoted 250 for the vent.

These won’t work they are a different shape I’ve tried lol. I ended up just pulling the ones off the rear side vents and snapping them into the fronts

Yep. I had one come off. They slide right back on and you can get them on fairly tight again.

There are a few differences between the ones on the F85 and the ones I ordered(suttle differences). I tried taking the silver piece off the ones I ordered from amazon but they are not big enough length wise. I was able to put them in but there is a 1mm gap at the top.

Second thing I found to be an issue is they dont slide well on the vent. They are too tight. Even if I removed the vent and replaced it with these ones I bought off Amazon they wont slide on the vent.

So long story short they dont work. Only thing left would be to pull one from the rear or get a new vent. However either way I am not seeing how you just removed the vent tabs. They have clips in the back of them that hold them there. I couldnt get anything to release it with the limited space. Not sure how you just pulled them from the rear (unless your just talking the silver piece which in that case yeah I could do that but still sucks). This sucks and is super annoying.

A little side note is I have no idea where that silver piece went to. It fell out but is nowhere to be found. If I could have found it I would have just glued it back in.

Yeah man this is my first BMW. I agree with a lot of comments overall on this matter that I have read. High end interior and the damn silver accent on the vent tabs fall off..... blah

One of my center grille vent tabs was broken and let me tell you it was a pain in the butt to remove the tab, my plan was to replace the tab with a replacement ( eBay bmw e70 tab item ) well they didn't fit and while I was trying to take off the older tab I ended up breaking inner gills lol
