Hands free telephone system quality

(My) X5 has simply an awful hf sound quality, both GSM/LTE and data calls sound really bad. Is something wrong with my car (radio/music sound is okay) and I have to live with that or there are some ways to improve that, eg better microphone retrofit, different sound processor etc?

My receive sound is good and I've never had complaints from the distant end, so maybe your setup. I have Bluetooth Enhanced, but don't think that changes anything: second microphone in headliner and phone cradle, but phone is more often in my pocket

Are you using an iPhone by any chance ?
The quality has deteriorated over the past while with iPhones - there is an issue but there doesn't seem to be a fix in sight from Bmw or apple I'm afraid - unless someone can help ?

Yes, I use iPhone - the sound is muffled and of very low quality. All my other cars (eg 2016 VW) have fantastic sound quality and I'm surprised that X5 sounds just like - if not worse then - E90.

I also have an iPhone, but no issues. I don't know if you're being particularly fussy, or if I'm just un-fussy. Probably the latter - I wear hearing aids!

Sound wise I'm terribly fussy, to be honest and the worst thing is I have other cars and ALL of them have far, far better HF systems. Not that I really care, since X5 is my family hauler that I use mostly during weekends where I really don't want any calls whatsoever. But - F15 is not really in Yugo Koral league, so I'd expect that sort of things to work at least decently.
