19” wheel w/space saver spare fitment?

I’m looking to run non-run-flats and use a 19” spare wheel & space saver tire/kit with a 2018 xDrive35i. It’s basically the X5M F85 spare wheel/tire kit. Does anyone know if there are any issues fitting the 19” spare kit in the rear storage compartment of a F15 X5? Thanks...

No issues, I have the F85 spare tire in my F15 storage compartment.

Hello, do you know if the sensors from MPBK are compatible with Carbotech 1521?
Thank you

If the pads are for the MPBK then yes they will fit

I have also spoken with Mike Jr. from Carbotec, he confirmed that.

Installed my M Performance Brake Kit over the weekend. I mentioned it another thread, but I opted for the same basic setup that Alan did, MPBK w/ F85 front rotors. Only change on my setup was that I opted for pads from Carbotech for a lower dust option. I'll keep you posted on how they are, my OEM pads would barely show any dust after 2 weeks of driving. I don't expect that same low dust performance, but anything is better than the BMW M pads (have them on our E82...black wheels after 3-4 days). I know Alan posted pics of the comparison on stock to the MPBK. The sheer size and rotor surface area is a substantial upgrade, its impressive. Pricing I got on the kit and pads (bought separately) put me at just over $4,800 including taxes. My dealer credited me back full retail for the front rotors and the pads (front/rear). Pretty good bang for the buck in my opinion for this upgrade.

I hit a few snags along the way, but other than that, the install was fairly easy. I bled them twice, pedal feel is now back close to stock, but still 'soft' in my opinion. The vehicle goes into my local dealer for coding tomorrow. I'll keep you posted on the performance following coding. Initial performance feedback once I bedded the pads is great, solid braking with amazing looks.

Unfortunately, I chipped the paint on the passenger side front caliper when bleeding. Some choice words were said at the time. I'll be looking to touch that up ASAP, its minor, but I know its there and my eye is drawn to it.

The issues I had during installation were:

-Passenger side rear H&R spacer was seized on (guess I was stingy with my anti-seize when I installed them). Took some heat and creative prying to get it to come loose.
-The Carbotech Pads for the rear, one set had the backing clip that seats into the piston on the outer pad, not the inner. Had to break the rivet and install on the correct pad and punch the rivet to lock it in place.
-Front caliper brass retainer clips for the pads were contacting the outer/top face of the rotor. When I assembled them, I had put the clips on upside down. Flipped them around and problem solved.
-Hex rotor retainer bolts (34111123072) do not sit flush to rotor hat. These are the ones that apparently show correct for the F85 rotor, I've got my dealer looking into it. Not a major issue, I removed them prior to spacer/wheel install.

Hello there,

Can you confirm the part numbers you ordered for the CarboTech Pads?
I know the rears are CT919.

I am not sure about the fronts. Did you use the CT1429 or the CT1294 with the MPBK Calipers?

Thanks,

Joe

Man, just had a confusing call with carbotech. They told me I must send my front pads (MPBK) in (or purchase new and send in) for them to put their 1521 material on the backing plates. Was quoted an item number CT1738 but needed my backing plate. This happen to anyone else? I thought the CT1429 was a direct fit.

D

Update: Spoke with Mike again. I confirmed with dealer that the pads for the F15 MPBK are the same as previous generation E70 M (you all probably already know this) so CT1429(F) and CT919(R) are confirmed for the F15/F16 MPBK by him, again. The CT1738 is for F85 fronts. Sorry for the confusion.

Ya I talked to them about this over the summer and they said the same thing. I have the F85 fronts.

I wish he'd remembered that with me. I was trying to figure how to get pads to him so that he could salvage the backing plates for reuse -- I would have done that and gotten back pads that would have been good for you, but not for me. So happy I figured it all out.

Ps. Those CT1738's are huge. They'd stop a freight train!

How much less dust are they than OEM? I recently upgraded to the MPBK and my calipers are nearly black with dust within 2 months.

I recently swapped my old oem MPBK (E70 X5M) pads to dirt cheap ceramic Power Stop ones for $25 lol https://www.rockauto.com/?carcode=1501225&parttype=1684 and they don't give dust! I too had very dirty rims with oem MPBK pads. OEM pads are good quality, but they give a LOT of dust man. Mine also squealed way too much. With these cheap ceramic ones - it's all good so far I do noticed slight decrease in stopping power - so they are not the best in performance, but my car was looking like I had black front rims and every time I stopped at a light - I was embarrassing BMW brand - people were looking for a yellow school bus, but were only finding me lol.

I need to get these installed soon. Probably shoot for spring time. Gotta cut the dust shields in the next couple weeks. Still need to decided if I want to stick with oem rears as they are a bit more worn than I was expecting. May need to just jump on a rear set of those cheap ones from eBay.

need some recommendations
would it be a goo idea to get these brakes installed from the local mechanic or should i go to the BMW dealer.
I very well know the BMW dealer gonna rip off, but haven't got the quote for that as of yet

Always get a trusted indy to install unless you want to get rid off by dealer.

Thanks @yewlock

From the local mechanic whom i trust quoted me CAD $1400 including tax for the installation.

The MPBK I got was on a pretty good deal for just USD $2495 from www.getbmwparts.com. but when i see the installation charges, it scares me off

My installer charged me $700 for labor but they don't know this need to be re-programed...

New kit from GBMWP was $680 to install at BMW. Came with warranty and coding.

This is a two hour job. There's absolutely nothing to it. I would not pay any more than $300 for the swap (labor).

Also worth noting, and this is strictly my opinion, I preferred the brake pedal feel without the brake coding versus with it.
