Ctek MULTI US 7002

What do you think of the ctek multi us 7002 charger to keep the batteries afloat/charged?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FRLO9Y..._EZrPEb88RG2EQ

I've been using a schumacher inc700a to keep our cars charged but as of late I started to get the "bad bat" error on both cars after reaching full charge. Not sure if batteries are indeed going bad (one of them was just replaced 2 months ago) or the power supply/charger which would be disappointing considering this cost me over $500 when i bought it.

Thanks for chiming in! Do you keep yours hooked up for days at a time, or just until the battery is charged?

I use it when needed then unplug. I don't use it regularly unless I have an issue. It's used on multiple different cars, ATV"s boats etc.

I have one that's very close to the model. It's an awesome charger, and it works well to restore/refresh/save otherwise bad batteries. It's the 8-step version. My only gripe, and it's the same gripe I have with most of the modern chargers: it doesn't work at all with a completely dead battery. In my experience, many dead batteries can still be saved. I have an old school manual trickle charger for these situations.

For massive jump starts, I prefer using another battery or the NOCO boost pro GB150. However, for seasonal trickle charging, refreshing, or recovering, the CTEK is the way to go.

I took the plunge on the ctek 7002 after receiving the battery discharged message again only after a few days of charging it with the schumacher inc700a and receiving the "bad bat" error message on the charger. Likely it's failing to charge it properly so hope the ctek will fix it.

I own the INC700, CTEK, and NOCO. Like you, I found some weirdness charging BMW batteries with the INC700, so I generally use only CTEK on my BMW batteries. If you only own one charger, I would recommend going the CTEK as it is definitely the easiest to use and is pretty much set and forget.

BMW sells a private branded CTEK under part number 61432408594 with the ability to charge lead-acid AND lithium batteries found in the F80/F82 and probably more in the future. CTEK does not offer this charger directly, but it is available discounted in many places online.

Good to know about the Schumacher, I am receiving my ctek charger Tuesday and will switch. The Schumacher has served me well over the years and has not given me any trouble while using it for coding but it's a let down that it can't charge batteries properly most of the time. If the ctek is that good and reliable then I'll be getting 'a second one so we can have both cars covered.

I ordered the one below a couple of days ago. Should get it today. I will let you know my feedback.

I bought it because even thought I start the car at least once a week and take it for a spin around the block I hear the battery sound a bit weak when starting.

For the car mostly sitting - how do you connect the ctek chargers? To the under the hood terminals or directly to the battery?

I’ve done them both ways. My wife’s old RR would kill the accessory sockets after 15 min. I had to clamp that car. My Porsches always worked. So either way.

Edit: I misread your question. I’ve used the dc adapter vs the clamps. That applies above. Now on your question I never connected directly to the battery. I’ve always used the jumpstart posts or the cigarette lighter adaptor.

Also on the cteks, if u look up an oem battery tender it almost always a rebadged ctek. Ferrari Porsche Bmw Audi etc

I have connected it using the red terminal under the hood and the ground to a screw in the engine bay and it is working as expected.

I am using the snowflakes mode.

You should always charge or jump the battery using the dedicated jump start terminals in the engine bay. Hooking directly to the battery can cause issues (false warnings etc) because the IBS (intelligent battery sensor) was bypassed. Also, don’t use the 12 volt cig lighters because they cut off after a while.

If hooking up a charger to a random grounding point in the engine bay (instead of the dedicated neg post that was designed to be used) seems to not work...the problem could be you’re using the wrong negative grounding point (which isn’t really grounded). If you don’t know where its located...check your owners manual...it should point out the positive & negative terminals in the engine bay. I say this because just a few weeks ago...a six series owner was connecting the negative cable to a screw he thought was grounded and it wasn’t.

So I got mine today and not sure if I should be worried or not but charged my f16 and the charger only got lukewarm, but on my wifes f15 it gets very hot to the touch. Admittedly it was connected for a few hours more than on my car...guess that battery was emptier?

Hi

I'm in the UK and just bought a CTEK MXS 5.0 for my F15 - its worked a treat - fully charged form completely dead in 36 hrs

The battery was so flat that it wouldn't even lock/unlock or open the boot

CTEK seems to be the way forward - I saw a youtuber going through his garage of 10+ cars super cars to daily drivers - they all had CTEX charges

I was really impressed with it and bought another one to keep both cars tendered, hope they live up to the expectations and last long.

Update: after reading some horror stories about the ctek making clicking noises I checked mine and it does click every 2 min, then after 10 seconds, then again after 2 min. This is while the charger is at stage 4 (float/pulse). Should I be worried/return it? This clicking didn't occur during other charging stages.

Update: the charger must be bad, hence the clicking because the car shows exceeding battery drainage still after a couple of days with the charger connected.

In the meantime I received the second charger to compare... I have a feeling I'll have to return them and exchange for the NOCO brand.

Thanks for this!!! I've been hooked up directly to the battery for the last 3 years not knowing it was wrong.

Has anyone ever made a permanently mounted plugin for a ctek? Maybe mount the +/- wires to the engine bay terminals and run them to a BMW style plug mounted in the grille area, kind of like the block heaters on diesels. I use a battery tender on my Goldwing and made a permanently mounted plug that I plug the battery tender in when not riding. My garage is kind of small, so having a plug somewhere in the front grille, or around there would make it much easier for me to plug a ctek in on the f15.
