Disabling ASD by taking out a fuse..

Gents,

BMW NW has fixed the ASD.. The exhaust noise that comes through the speakers is now gone. I have a friend that Manages the BMW dealership that i go to and asked him the question, "can you program my vehicle so there is no artificial engine or exhaust sound?" What he found is that fuse number 129 goes NOWHERE. In the 2014 F10 M5's this is the same case and he has removed these fuses before and it has fixed the problem.

So BMW NW removed the fuse... NO MORE ASD!! I had it done for free at the dealership. Took less then 5 minutes.

Cheers!!

Good to know, but I think coding seems cleaner than removing fuses... at least the coding is a supported and known path.

It is beyond stupid that asd isnt an option in the vehicle settings, or at minimum something your dealer can turn off for you.

Interesting thought here. The head technician at the BMW dealership is the one who suggested it. Good enough proof and support for me. A fuse is much easier then coding. Cheers

I'd still prefer to pull the plug from the amp than a fuse.

It's funny actually - I plugged ASD back in the other day just to see if I could notice the difference. It was immediately clear.

After going back and forth a few times with it on and off, the best way I can describe ASD is unnecessary noise in the cabin.

While it does generally sound like the exhaust, and I can't tell that it's coming directly from the speakers, it just feels unnatural.

Thanks. Curious why folks aren't keen on unplugging a fuse? The fuse doesn't go NOWHERE, I'm gathering OP that you meant it only supports ASD? Are you sure it doesn't control anything else? The only downside of coding (I may pull the plug soon) is when you pop in for service you've got to worry about them fixing the "ASD off" code, or whatever it is. I've told them not to do it, but they aren't always the most thorough...

I dont think the asd coding would stand out during a normal service, but cant say for sure.

You are correct. The fuse controls the ASD. When i said goes no where i meant that it controls nothing else... No codes, I have confirmed withe the shop foreman at the BMW dealership i go to. To me, i would rather un plug a fuse then someone going and re coding my vehicle. To each their own. Just thought i would share. Cheers.
Totally agree, would rather remove a fuse that could easily be replaced than make a change to more complex software configure. But as it happens, I prefer ASD on than otherwise. I just wish I could superimpose other sounds than the factory ASD recordings.

I am lazy and far from my car... Where is the fuse box in the F85? Inside the glove compartment?

Are they actually recordings?

I mean, if it a live recording piped straight in, or is it a backing track like Britney Spears might use?

I don't know if they are recordings or artificial reproductions...but I do know that if they are delivering tones through the speaker system then they could alter the actual sound that comes through

I've read they are not recordings, instead synthesized baloney of what whoever designed the monstrosity thought a pleasant exhaust note might sound like. I hate it, but to each their own. For me it's mostly I want to hear the B&O totally clean, but I also just don't like the idea of fake engine/exhaust noise being pumped in. It's either real, or it ain't, in my book.

Is it really just the ASD on the X5M? I found this related to the M5:
" The fuse in question is the #200 one, rated at 40 amps. You can check its location in the photo above. Pull that fuse and your radio will be off permanently but the seatbelt sensors as well, as they seem to share it."

its not number 200. My ASD is off and seat belt sensors work just fine. THERE ARE NO COMPLICATIONS The fuse number that was pulled was number #129 ( don't know the location because i had the BMW tech do it)

Just unplug the connector on the ASD module, takes all of 30 seconds.

Than if you want it back just plug it back in, it really is that simple.

can anyone supply a pic of the fuse diagram? I suspect there is supposed to be a paper map of some sort in the area, but I can't find it. Thanks in advance.
