1.4 annual payment
868 cash value

After 25% fed a Texas / no lottery tax state, winner would be a billionaire with annual payment option.
Stupid money for someone even if multiple winners.

If a new yorker wins IT'S RIGGED I tell you! Lol
Highest tax rate by far, especially if purchased in nyc.

Uhmmmm... You'd change your look to be that of possibly a lesbian ? I'm not sure I follow...

I think a much better manlier example would be - most would go Dan Bilzerian... And in case somebody doesn't know, below is his IG lol...

https://www.instagram.com/danbilzerian/

But yes, this is how I imagine most people will become after receiving 800mill overnight...

I'd TRY and become invisible. Whoever wins will probably have to, unfortunately, learn the fine art of lying.
You tell people your money is from a lottery win you just became a fat dog walking through a flea and tick infested jungle. Not to mention actual predators.

High risk investing would be my answer lol.

Also, I think the federal taxes on it will be closer to 40% not 25%, which is just the withholding. There will be another nine-figure tax bill for the winner after the withholding. Still way more money than anyone could ever need, but 25% isn't the entirety of federal tax.

I doubt you could stay in the US and disappear. The reality TV hounds would be stalking you for your story for years. Not to mention every charity and long-lost cousin with a sad story. You'd have to hire some retired witness protection professional to cover your tracks and then leave the country. I think you'd be happier winning a few mil to make sure you and your family lived well.

Non lottery tax states get 25% fed off the top and that's it. The winner(s) would be in the 40% for yearly though. It is considered income.

This is why you just set up a limited liability company / trust etc... Have attorney go claim prize for you...

Here's a reality tidbit.
You have better odds of becoming an astronaut AND winning an Academy Award than winning powerball.

But, it will have a winner(s) so I toss my coin in the fountain. Gives me something to do while having my first coffee.

Only a few states allow a representative to claim.
I once read a guy won a few million and they told him he couldn't collect without doing the media thing at his states lottery headquarters.
He went in a gorilla costume and one reporter actually tried pulling his mask off. Animals!

25% is just the mandatory withholding not the full tax. Even in FL where there is no state tax, I expect a lump sum payout would be subject to federal income tax at the top bracket, close to 40%, just like if you take it annually.

First, I'd buy my pop that Merc vert he's always wanted, but would never buy himself.

Then I'd be hiring somebody to come into the local Little League area and do all the fields right, with real bathrooms, a real snack bar, lights, and batting cages. I'd be out there helping with the manual labor.

I'd buy my wife the two-story house she has always wanted, surrounded by farmland to raise my alpacas and chivos.

The boys would all get a new car of their choice, but they have to pay their own insurance. Then college funds set up, and a house of their own purchased (they have to pay insurance and taxes)

Family would be taking a few trips to tropical locations, and I'd get that trip to Machu Pichu under a full moon.

Oh, and I wouldn't be getting up at 5:30 weekdays to drive to my job. I'd buy somebody to show up until I could quit.

I've seen a bunch of stories like this, and obviously it's for humor, but it's not really true. Take, for instance, a 50-year-old couch potato (who I believe fits the bill for a good % of the lottery players): It would be virtually impossible for him to be an astronaut (given age, fitness and prior training requirements), let alone go through training necessary to become an award-winning actor. What makes Powerball such a draw is that there is no skill or mortal risk required whatsoever, so all of the "higher odds of this or that happening" really don't apply much since many players will never find themselves in the position to put themselves in that kind of opportunity/risk (astronaut, Academy Award winner, hit by lightning, shark attack, etc.).

Just my $0.02.

I absolutely agree. I'll never attempt to become an astronaut or take an acting class.

I just like using the word tidbit whenever possible.

I'd have nice dog parks built all over the state where they are needed and would be used and appreciated. Each named the same, his name. My boy is 13 and starting to show the bad signs.
