How old was your battery if you don't mind me asking ?
Not sure but it appeared fine and I had no lights or instrument warnings. I thought it was the key fob battery and when I replaced it the issue continued so I brought the car into BMW. The rep called me the following day and told me the battery was going bad. They switched it out and everything was fine there after. Not saying this may be your issue but that was my experience back then.

True, when you start having strange small issues, it's usually the battery. BMW has some priority set somewhere in the code that shuts down what it deems unnecessary power drain when the battery is not performing well. One of the, if not the first thing that happens is you lose soft close. Happened on my E70 X5M as well.
