Well, BMW probably put their same POS pad on your ride too. Since Oct. 2018 over 3K in miles (i do not drive it everyday). Did the same thing to my 2013 F10 M5, no squeals, squeaks or dust to speak of.

Powerstop FTW. Gonna be running them on mine when I get back from deployment.

I don't think 3k miles is enough to know if your f10 m5 pads would do the trick? please keep us posted when you have about 10k miles on it! but i am a little confused with you saying powerstop pads too? do you have a combination of pads?

thanks

Finally got my squeaky brakes fixed. I had the dealership chamfer mine and it totally worked! I still get a little squeal in reverse, but it’s so much better

+1

My dealer chamfered / cleaned the pads and greased the contact points and the brake squeal was worse than when I dropped it off. The key to me seems to be maintaining the pad transfer layer on the rotor through periodic hard braking.

I put Akebono's ceramics on the rears because I've used them for 6 years on my F10 M5 with great success. The fronts are the Z23-1648. I said POS too, meaning BMW's piece of shitt stock pads. These Z23-1648 have worked great guys and they cost like $65 or something.

Again, how many miles on your X5M with no squeal so far since installing those magical pads?? Report back after 10k or so miles. Thank you!

This also seems to work for me. It's almost like the things need re-bed periodically.

I already told you. I won't put 10k on the car for another year. Feel free to NOT purchase the aforementioned "magic pads" or listen to me. Keep what you have champ, I'm just trying to help.

I have zero squeal before 5000 miles, and may have some come and go noise after 5000. but now it become frequently starting last month at around 7000 miles. really driving me nuts...

I did brake bedding in procedure right after I take delivery, like I done with all other BBK I had before, I thought I am the lucky one here with zero squeal, but looks like I am not LOL

Even if they only lasted 10k miles being quiet, I would 100% be fine with getting them replaced once a year as long as BMW covered it So either way you should be good. Mine are 4k since the upgraded pads and still quiet.

Took her in for a final look-see 2 days before the warranty expired. Requested for the brake squeal to be addressed again. They determined it was the rear and I got new rear brake pads and rotors. Got new wipers and an early oil service too

FWIW, BMW is not covering mine. I didn't want an overwhelming brake dust producing pad so I went my own route with the PowerStops. All good as far as I'm concerned. Also, zero brake dust and the car stops just fine for the street.

So after complaining that brand new brakes stated to squeal again service manager ordered another set but mentioned that one is from a new compound and supposed to be different....
I will update later when I get them and use for some time.
Looks like we have old and new compound brakes

He meant he's using the powerstop brand in the M5 size cuz they don't make them for F85 as of yet. You can run the M5 pads on the F85 caliper as it's the same caliper.

Mine were chamfered or whatever it's called, and it still squeaks. Coming up on 3k since that dealer visit. It's a real pain in the ass.

FYI, checked with Powerstop today on the ETA of the Z23 front pad for the X5M. The PN is in their system, Z23-1738, but showed 0 available. Sales rep said "that's crazy". She is going to check with production and get back to me Monday. We'll see.

Awesome, please let us know. I'd love to order a set to try out.

2015 X6M. My rear brakes were squealing intermittently. I brought it in to the dealership I bought it from (Schomp BMW, Highlands Ranch, Colorado) for a steering column issue and asked them to check the rear brakes. The pads measured 8mm, which was good. They said replacement is required at 3mm. Then they told me that M brakes (blue calipers) have a tendency to squeal because the pads will put a film on the rotors. They then told me if the squealing returns, do a hard brake from about 40mph to try to remove the film.
Although they did nothing to the brakes, other than measure the pad thickness, the brakes haven't squealed. So, I haven't been able to test this procedure yet.
