New (to me) 2017 X5m

I came from a loaded 2012 E70 50i with Adaptive drive and 3rd row, which put a smile on me everytime I drove it. I was planning on replacing it with an X7 M50i in a couple of years, but the itch to try something new sprung up a bit early . Once I relaxed the 3rd row requirement, I started looking at F85s. I was keen on 2017+ models for the tech upgrades and also for some remaining factory warranty. I was dead set on DG exterior with MR or Aragon brown, with B&O sound. Almost pulled the trigger on one that was up for sale locally, but found some potentially serious issues with PPI and passed on it. Then I found one out of state at BMW Birmingham in AL in a color combo I wasn’t too keen on (Silverstone + silverstone) with 45k miles, but it was priced at something that I just couldn’t refuse. The vehicle passed PPI by momentum motor sports with flying colors (they did find a leak in rear diff which was fixed under warranty) and I ended up pulling the trigger. I arranged for shipping and was in possession of the vehicle 3 weeks later. On a side note: I’ve purchased several cars sight unseen from out of state, and Amir Roy from BMW Birmingham is one of the best sales advisors I’ve interacted with; he made a sight unseen purchase as smooth as possible, and I would highly recommend him.

I’ve done some minor mods: gloss black kidney grills & side gills, switched out 20” 611s to black 612s, with Yokohama winter tires (summer set is the chrome 612 set) and front window tint to match rears. Changed pads & rotors all around (all OE), no squeaks yet, keeping fingers crossed.

Impressions after driving for few hundred miles: It’s a rocket, feels *much* faster than my E70 with the Dinan, no comparison. The suspension is definitely a step above the E70 with adaptive drive - almost eliminates body roll completely. Technology is great, with touch screen idrive & Apple CarPlay. B&O sound is incredible, my wife and I enjoy music on long drives, so pretty happy with it. The silverstone leather is amazing, I love it much more than I thought I would, no regrets. The one negative is the steering feel - there’s almost no road feel and it feels pretty numb. The E70 hydraulic steering wins by a long mile. BMW screwed the pooch here.

The vehicle just came fresh off detail, it is a monster with killer looks. Extremely pleased new owner, happy to join the M club.

Been waiting for this thread! Looks amazing! I ended up with DG, but was shocked how much I liked the Silverstone in person. Such a dynamic shade of silver. Perfect with the black wheels. Enjoy it in good health.

Congrats, awesome color combination. Are you running oem and tire size? The stance looks great. I had to get kw on mine to get a lowered stance.

Nice color combo indeed! Enjoy.

I agree the X5M steering is a letdown, no road feel and lacks on-center feel as well. Other than that - and the need to gas up virtually every other drive - my first 6 months has been a great experience.

The car could use a little more range in OEM suspension settings calibration too...but hey if I ever track it it’s great The new X3/5Ms ride even worse however.

I went through the same past car history.

My F85 originally had 20" Pirellis and I was not impressed with the steering feel, my former X5 50i was somewhat better.

For special reasons I was forced to switch to 21" Michelins and the steering feel has improved a lot.

Thanks! I got it from someone in San Diego who was conducting an estate sale. I do have 3 wheels (missing one rear) that I'm looking to sell, you could find one rear in eBay and make a full set. Let me know if you'd be interested.

Congrats. I feel ya. Just got one as well. Sold my Macan S like brandnew condition and got the beast. There is no compression anywhere of the vehicle to what i came from. This huge body acts like a very light car.

These F85 X5M's are special. Does anyone know how they compared to the New X5M Competition with their tune S63?

Nice ride and thanks for sharing how Silverstone with black gloss accents look! Did you black out the window trim and roof rails too?

Thanks, still enjoying it, and drive/handling have improved dramatically once I switched to summers with MPSS. No, I didn't black out the window trim and roof rails, they came that way from factory.
