Well, decided to with the MPE first. My X5 is just too quiet
Also was able to get a solid price shipped to me and had a hard time passing up on it. I plan to have the tips powdercoated gloss black before install so there will be some visual change as part of it too. I'll look to do the front splitter in the spring/summer.

Agreed! It shipped today and should be here by end of week.
Also found a shop that will powdercoat the tips gloss black for $100. Price seems ok I think since it will be far more durable than having them painted.

Exhaust arrived! Dropping off tips for powdercoating on Saturday and should be able to get the exhaust installed at the same shop when the tips are ready. Excited!

MPE is super loud at cold start, almost ricey loud. But it tapers down within 15 seconds.
Also it drones in hill acceleration and some other cruising speed. It's kind of embarrassing when I drive around with my clients as they can think my car is in need of repair of something. If I would do it again? Hm...I'm not sure. I'm not so sold on it. |

You're I think only 1 of 2 people I've heard mention a concern with droning.

I'm a fan of the raspy sound. I had an E46 M3 with an eisenmann exhaust for about 5 years and that thing was raspy as hell.

Where'd you order from? I'm thinking about it but I'd like to know how you feel after install.

ordered from bmwpartspros.com. They had the best price around. You may need to PM them on here to get the shipping price sorted as it is quite inflated when trying to order directly from their site.

I actually ordered it from them a couple of months ago. Like 2 weeks went by with no shipping info so I cancelled the order. Was it like $1240 plus shipping?

It was ~$1300 shipped. I'd PM Britney (parts@stbmw) on here. She was really responsive and got me all sorted out very quickly.

Maaaaaaaan I just don't know if it's worth that to me. I drove one with the MPE and could barely notice a difference. Update this thread after you have yours installed. I'm torn on the decision..

I just got an e-mail from the powder coat guy who says he's way backlogged and might be 3 weeks to get the tips done... Unfortunately there just aren't too many powder coaters in the area. Hopefully he's the kind of guy that likes to under promise and over deliver.. I'll update when I finally get the exhaust on.

Yah, I'm thinking about doing that. I guess it would be fine to drive around without the tips on for awhile if I needed to....

I went that route and it didn't work out fitment wise and I also had missing parts. took some work but finally got my money back. got OEM and everything was flawless. the finish on non-OEM just is not the same. there was waviness to the weave which on such a large part is very noticeable with the aftermarket part. the BMW OEM front splitter is expensive as heck but perfect fitment and weave. there's a thread on the other forum for the install and many people complain about construction and quality of the non-OEM.

the front lip is on with beta link and I don't think there is a safe way to get it removed. any ideas?
might be easier to leave on, take the loss, and not have to deal with repair and clean up of what surely will be a big mess.
