Battery replacement options?
Good afternoon guys, I would think that in 2020, with the F15's adding years to it's 'in service' life, some of you/us will need to replace the batteries soon or already have. Can anyone share their experience on what they used for replacements?
Our '15 F15 3.5xi will be turning 5 years old in July, so the batteries are coming toward the end of their lives. I say batteries, as our's has (2). The big one is a 90ah AGM(900cca) & the smaller one is a 50ah (570cca) AGM, so will assume I'll need to replace both. Has anyone done this outside of the dealership? I'm pretty sure I can get the 90ah AGM at one of the auto stores as it's a H8, but I don't know what group the smaller one is. Any help out there? If you did it at dealership, what was their price? |

The other 90ah battery was easier to find, batteries plus sold me a 92ah duracell agm, perfect fit. Make sure you dont get the 105ah as it won't fit. |

It seems this is the part number? 61219364597 And from what I see it sells for at least 400 at the dealer? |

In general,I would say 5 years for a battery is generally correct, but my m3 battery is now 10 years old and still going strong ... if you use a tender they can last a long time...
Don’t assume at 5 years the battery needs to be replaced.

I've tried to aftermarket. The ratings are relatively easy to find but the battery box sizes were different which covered the bottom mounts. You could try to rig a strap system for the battery mount if needed but i just went back to BMW.
The larger battery cheaper because there are likely some that would fit in the same area (so there is competition). The smaller one is proprietary and i could not find any; so the price is higher than the other one. |

I'm resurrecting this thread for people like me who are looking for aftermarket options.
After buying this one (which says it fits) from Autozone and lifting that heavy bitch into my car I found out it's way too big. https://www.autozone.com/batteries-s...cca/229889_0_0 It turns out that this is the actual one (which says it doesn't fit) that we need. https://www.autozone.com/batteries-s...cca/319459_0_0 |

I asked but maybe I didn’t hit the submit button.
When you replace the battery, do you have to code the battery to the vehicle. I thought I read on bimmer tech that they have an option to purchase the coding? |

Okay. So if I can further my understanding - if you have the cable, software, and know how - you could register the battery to the car yourself?
Just a general question. Coding I assume would be important in regards to 90 v. 92 ah. |

Eunoterpsia - Correct. With ISTA, Foxwell NT530 or other devices, you can register both batteries (large and small) to the vehicle. During the registration process, the scan tool should ask you to confirm the new battery is the same spec as the old. If the new battery has significantly different Cold Cranking Amps (CCA), ampere hours (Ah), or battery types (lead acid or AGM), you must complete coding.

I’ve been buying Walmart batteries for friends and family for 20+ years. Never had an issue. So. Damn. Reasonable. Enjoy! |

Just an FYI...if your X5 came with a 105AH battery...then a direct replacment is the H9/95R battery class size (the one that the poster above said didn't fit). Not sure why it didn't fit for him...unless there was a hold down clamp or other parts in the battery compartment that needed to be moved to accommodate the slightly longer H9/95R battery.
If your X5 came with an AGM 105 AH H9/95R battery and you change to a 90AH, 92AH, or 95 AH battery & change class size to the AGM H8/49 size battery...you will need to CODE these changes first, then register the new battery. The smaller aux battery is a 50 amp hour H4/LN1/140R class size battery...the aftermarket version can be found in an AC Delco branded battery from RockAuto...or try a local GM dealership's parts department.

My core reasons for continuing to buy AZ batteries is that they have a no question replacement policy during the first 3 years and they have stores all over the US. |

Qsilver7 I want one of those Foxwell battery testers. Can't bring myself to buy one. LOL!
I will say that my Foxwell NT530 scanner has paid for it's self several times over. |

Walmart and Autozone use Clarios (used to be Johnson Controls and is supplier for most, if not all Interstate batteries) for their batteries but AGM from WalMart have 4 year warranty and they are easy to deal with. I got two a month ago and they were made in Germany, likely from Varta since they are owned by Clarios too. BTW, I used an H5 AGM as the auxiliary battery since H4 AGM is hard to find and much more expensive. H5 is wider and I had to move the power unit over about 1/2 inch. The battery bracket in X5 50i has a removeable stop and wider sits fine. The hold-down was over to one side with H4 and with a 1 inch wider H5 it is closer to center and is secured well. Nothing is touching, you'd look at the batteries and think it was the original setup.
