Rear differential seal leaking

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hi I have BMW X5 F15 and I found out that rear Drive Axle Shaft Seal a little bit leaking.
I'm DIYer and a lot of maintenance and repair do myself.
I really ask adwise what to do
1 Some people said just put a little beat of AT-205 reseal and forget.
2 I would really prefer to replace the seal .
But I read on Internet you need a special tools and sometimes it disconnect from differential.

If anybody a procedure or preform that work?
Thank you for your help

Me too. I just got my inspection done today and they showed me that the rear diff has oil all over the outside. Seems to be coming from shaft seal

ah, the rear pinion seal. Soo common on these it seems. Sorry, I never did it myself or know the procedure.

I had mine done under warranty. The shop I go to said mine wasn't serious and would be fine for a little while but eventually it'll need to be replaced. It's like a $15 part and $6-900 in labor or something like that, lol. You can get the tool, I saw it on Amazon for ~$160 (not sure if it's rentable anyplace) and I think it's a 1.5-2.5 hour job (for pros).

This is the one that I found. I've never used it so I can't be 100% (I *think* this is the tool)

Ok, so your engine rear main seal is leaking, NOT your rear axle pinion seal in the differential?

I think there was some confusion in here.

Dropping the trans won’t be much fun…

Could you please let me know the name of local Indy place where you got the work done. I have same issue. BMW registred my car on wrong VIN and gave me wrong warranty exp date, now warranty expired.
