Emergency brakes not "unlocking" in cold weather
So weird. I have a brand new 2018 x6m. In DC the last few days temps have been in the teens. When I start my car and dis engage my emergency brake I have to really push the gas for the car to move. Because of the cold the breaks are "stuck". This happen to anyone??

I have a 2016 X5M and park it outside and i'm up in NJ. The weather has been single digits last few days and I have had zero issues with anything like that. I would call your dealer and let them take a look.

i would wager it is minor rust from the brine/salt or ice freezing it up then it breaks free. i keep my vehicles parked in a heated garage and the e-brake sticks from time to time... especially this past week. no issues or concerns here.

Anyone has a solution on this issue? Last week it was cold in my area, in the morning I need to push hard on gas paddle to force breaks unstick to the pads. Everytime I can hear a big pop, scares me, lol.

This happens to me every time I'm leaving my house following a drive involving moisture and where temperatures are low. For me, it's certainly not the parking brake, rather the pads sticking (rusting) to the rotors.
My 06 GTO also does this, though, it does not see winter driving these days. My 15 Grand Cherokee SRT did the same thing. My $.02: It's a result of the pad/rotor material rusting together and is further acerbated given the large pad area to the rotor. Maybe give the brakes hell before parking in wet weather? |

This is due to the condensation that builds up between pads and the rotor. When your rotors are warm/hot and you park your vehicle outside, condensation between the pads and rotors start to develop, bonding the two parts together. And when you step on the gas, they separate causing a pop or a bang! And it's more intense if your vehicle brakes are wet.
