Tire comparison calculator for helping you keep the overall diameter for front and rear similar or within 1%.

Bigger Tires

So, based on Zip22's post - I did it. I ordered a pair of 275x45x21's for the front and a pair of 315x40x21s for the rear on my 2017 X5. I am good with a little inner fender rubbing if that is all the slightly taller tire causes. I will report back when I receive and install these as they will be my "winter set of tires".

Zip, are you still running the set up as listed here in the thread? I ordered this week and am pretty excited. How many miles have you put on with this set up so far? Can you please advise where you picked your spacers up (a link if possible) and a snap of the tires now - with the spacers do they sit outside the well at all?

Thanks!

I'm interested in filling in the wheel gap with a taller tire also. Looking forward to updates.

My initial install was as bust - I got my 30 MM spacers from Venum - ordered them for the F15 and they sent me the wrong ones (smalled hub size). The dealer didn't take my advice to mount 1 of the fronts and test fit it but instead said "he knew it would work even without the spacers" mounted all 4 only to find out it didn't fit.

They then proceeded to try to make me pay for 2 mount and balance jobs, needless to say that didn't happen.

I am now awaiting the correct spacers to give this one more go. The tires did look pretty sexy mounted up and held up to the X5 though!

Zip22 are you lowered or on stock suspension? I’m ordering 21x10” front and 21x12” rear wheels and was thinking about using your tire setup. See any drawbacks or issues I may face? Thanks for any info you can help me with!

JD,

While the width can make a difference, the offset is even more important.

So here the thing I’m currently building BC Forged wheels and I want to build it around this tire size lol. The main issue why I asked if he was lowered was because I will be on Dinan springs. So I think my clearance will be even less in general. And I don’t mind bringing the wheel width down some to accommodate and adjusting offset. But before I commit and buy these wheels I want a definitive answer lol. And even wheel companies have a hard time helping.. So any and all help would be appreciated!

Selling my 30mm spacers and 95% new tires if anyone is interested.
Why did you decide to switch back to stock tire sizes being that the ride and handling was improved?

After reading through this thread, I ended up going in between for my winter setup. I'm not lowered and have not installed spacers yet. No rubbing. I have 5mm front / 12mm rear spacers I will be installing hopefully tonight.

Stock
285/35/21 - 28.9" diameter
325/30/21 - 28.7" diameter
0.7% difference

Winter Setup
275/40/21 - 29.7" diameter
315/35/21 - 29.7" diameter

Solid choice, I did the 275x45x21 and 315x40x21 with the 30MM spacing and love the stance and look but do have a slight **occasional** rub at full lock. So far I am pretty happy with it.

This is hilarious, it would happen like that to me. I already put the order through on my custom wheels. My upsized tires have already shipped from Tire Rack, Pirelli P Zero. I’ve been calculating offsets, widths, tire dimensions, anything and everything you can think of. Just to come to the conclusion that my upsize of 275/40/21 and 315/35/21 would work. I also relied heavily on forum posts about spacers and custom wheel threads. I’m so happy I came across this post, it just confirms my setup, and it will fill in the wheel gap nicely. Now the waiting game for my custom wheels haha. You relieved me of my worries and now I’m excited, thanks! But the irony is I sent the payment, and now this post shows up. Luckily I’m in the clear lol . Link to post in case you want to follow the saga haha.

I had my fingers crossed at the tire shop this morning. Knowing the folks with 275/45/21 and 315/40/21 have to use 30mm spacers I was a little on edge. But everything fit just fine.

Thanks a lot for your input and contribution to the community! I love seeing posts like this. It makes me realize there is always a place for the forums. Facebook and other places for car guys just has a bunch of arguing with lack of information. This is exact opposite! Btw I am using your pictures and I will tag you so the people following my post see why I’m confident now

scats are you using any spacers at all? No rubbing still? And stock ride height right?

JD

Following this thread too. I'm dropped on KWs though so not sure how it will work for me. Definitely can't wait to see JD's new wheels and see how it all works out!

The pictures I took yesterday were right after the tires were installed with no spacers. And yes, I am at stock ride height.

I did install 5mm/12mm spacers last night. I'll post up new pictures after I get a chance to clean her up a bit.

Appreciate the feedback, and I can’t wait to see the new look. The spacers will make a world of difference

I am honestly surprised you are adding spacers if you don't need them. They look good. Mine stick out a good inch from bottom of the fender with the 30MM spacers. It looks SUPER aggressive but I am going to have to get some rock chip protection film thrown on before I put to many miles on like this.

Good buy man! At that price it was worth it in the name of science haha! Figured I would go through this set and test it out, and then settle on Michelin PS4 SUV whenever they release in the not so distant future lol. If anyone else needs the tires this is the time lol. There are less then 10 front and rears left!
