That’s good— in their YouTube video they said M5.

I'm with you shouldn't be done, actors fine, cars no.

I don't remember the M4 (and yet M3 was in the previous film).

M5 was at the airport early in the film.

That BMW bike was cool too.

I enjoyed the line "was the little car your idea?"

I love the lightness and small size of classic cars but I understand there's no way people of today would get in a car where 3 adults would have to sit in each others' laps across the backseat

When the M5 was used in the film. It had not actually been launched as yet. As Mission:Impossible Fallout was filmed last summer when the M5 had not officially had its launch. So the car had to be kept secret.

Kind of...

E.g., in terms of size of car,
F10 M5 > E60 M5 > E39 M5

but, in terms of back seat leg room,
E39 M5 > E60 M5 > F10 M5.

I'm 6'4. I can easily and comfortably sit behind myself in the e39 M5. I couldn't begin to sit behind myself in the e60 or F10 M5.

Some films are edited weeks before their release. This doesn't hold water.

I'm on the same page. Old beat up cars? Okay. But a nice pristine older model Beemer that I know some guy out there would treasure - that just kills me. I think they should just CGI the destruction - or better yet - cut to stock footage of Toonces the Driving cat going over a cliff.

Yes it does. Just because a movie was filmed a year ago doesn't mean edits don't take that long, particularly when third-party placement contracts are part of it.

Ergo: In any product-placement contract, BMW would have the right to screen an initial edit and request revisions -- or, in the case of the still-under-wraps M5, demand them. I can very easily see BMW going through several rounds of this with the movie's producers, a process that likely took several months with innumerable people involved. Trust me on this: the more corporate folks get involved, the more things tend to get cut.

And BMW is not the only company with a product-placement contract in this film.

Makes total sense. Such arrangements are one reason big movies like this take so long to get from filming to release. Post-production is as much a corporate exercise as it is a creative one.

Only In America... Everywhere else you could have them in dozens of colours.

In any event, this isn't an E28 M5, but either 525i, 528i or possibly 535i (there were a few without ///M on the front) all dressed to look the same.

Several times during production, the car was launched off the line after the gas pedal was snapped down in neutral. The engine can clearly be heard just snicking over the limiter at 6,500 before the DME righted itself, in order to save the engine from being lunched altogether. An M5 would be doing that at 7,200. And judging by the way it sounded when he pulled over at the end, it didn't have much more to give!

I can't find the source, but I remember reading that they actually found an M5 in that color to serve as the hero car. They only came in black in NA, but they have many colors for the worldwide release:

https://bimmertips.com/bmw-e28-m5-oe...color-options/

Obviously, they mocked up some non M cars to look like the M5 to save some money for the stunt cars.
