Phone Dock vs BT Streaming

So I have a new X5 and have that stupid phone cradle in my arm rest. Is there any reason at all I should even think about buying the iPhone 5S dock for that thing?
I mean what extra functionality will I get vs what I'm getting now via Bluetooth??
Thanks

You can use BMW apps through the cradle or via usb to lighting cable. I have a cradle in my 5 series and I never use it. When I do I forget the phone in the car. For long trips it's nice but I rarely use the cradle and will not buy one for the X5. I bought an iPod nano that stays plugged in to the usb in the console for music. If I want to charge phone in the car I use a 12V dual usb charger out of the cig lighter. The BMW apps are cool...for a short time. I'm just not in the car long enough to have a book read to me, use pandora or anything else.

I just picked up my snap-in adapter. I like the neatness of it, charging this way and not have the phone sliding around is a plus. I do agree that I will tend to leave the phone behind in the car. HOWEVER, I noticed that, having left the phone in the car, I was actually paying attention to and making conversation with my wife at dinner and not checking emails, looking up the weather or any of the usual ADHD behaviors that happen with a smart phone readily accessible.

What might that be worth to you?

I use my time in the car to charge my phone usually. I purchased a black lightning cable so that it does not stand out in my car and just plug it in and get the same results. I always thought the phone dock was worthless and took up room in the arm rest. On top of that, if you have a case on your phone it is even more worthless.

I just bought one. If you have a case on your Iphone 5s, you will need to remove it. I am now just using the Iphone the way Steve Jobs intended, naked and not covered in plastic!

The only advantages compared to using the USB are - it uses the car aerial (the fin on the roof of the car) for better cell phone reception, charges the phone much faster than the USB, frees up the USB port so you can permanently plug and Ipod or whatever in that car port, you don't have to have the phone sliding around the cup holder with wires all over the place.

Did you buy the iPhone 5s Snap In Adaptor? I didn't think it was available. Do you have the part number?

Do you use BMW Apps, Pandora, or Stitcher? With the cable, you have to start ConnectedDrive then launch the app on the phone when iDrive tells you to. Is it same with the dock or do these apps get loaded automatically...as in, once the phone's in the dock, I can launch all the apps iDrive supports from iDrive? Because, if I was listening to the radio, then want to switch to Pandora, and I have to open the center console and launch the apps, it will be pointless to have this dock. It would actually be easier for me to have to phone outside of the center console where I can launch the apps quicker/safer. Can you verify this if you have any of the iDrive supported apps? Thanks.

BTW, the part number is: 84212351307 $135 on BMWUSA website.

Yes you have to open the console and turn the app on. Your part # is wrong. That adapter will not work fully with the Connected Drive. You need

OEM # 84-21-2-351-308 Suggested retail is $250 but you can get it on amazon.com for about $197.

You are correct. Was looking at the wrong adaptor.

The adaptor we are talking about isn't listed on the BMWUSA website.
