Front collision warning

The system really works.. Few days ago, I was driving down the local street at around 50-60mph with a cup of coffee in my hand and some idiot with a tow truck decided to cut right in front of me. The truck sounded an alarm and warning flashed in the instrument cluster but before I could put my foot on the brake, it had already applied the brake slowing down the car and and as soon as the tow truck cleared my path, it picked up speed and resumed at the speed I was going. Needless to say I spilled the coffee all over my clothes and the seat. It has given me a warning few times before but never applied brakes.

It was off. I still haven't used it yet. The delivery specialist at the BMW performance center recommended that I don't use acc until 1200 miles. 200 more miles to go before I can try.

The ACC is an add on in DA Plus. Does your vehicle equipped with ACC?
My car doesn't have ACC but it has equipped with DA PLUS. I tried to simulate a situation with above 35 MPH and coming very close to a vehicle ahead of me but never experienced automatic breaking. My only options left is to try in empty parking lot with soft object collision.

I've used my ACC a few times already and I haven't broken mine in yet but I find it takes a bit too long before getting back on the gas again after the pathway clears up. Is there any way to adjust the distance?

Yes my vehicle is equipped with acc but I haven't tried it. It has given me a warning on a few occasion but never applied brake since there was still some distance between the vehicles. In this instance, I would have probably crashed into the tow truck had the system not reacted and applied the brakes.

Is there anything to learn from this incident?

Good to know it worked for you!! I too have pondered the large cardboard boxes in an empty parking lot!
On a serious note I do hope the insurance companies start to look favorably on this kind of technology and that it ultimately leads to cheaper premiums.

Yes, the top right button on the left side of the steering wheel will reduce the distance.
